I will say bags like this are most likely way better then they were 10-15 years ago because laptops today are so much smaller and lighter. The bags of yore were enormous, heavy and awkward.

However, my early career laptop travel experiences scarred me and I'm never going back to a bag like that ever again.

Backpacks are great! ... if you're rucking, backpacking, or actually traveling. The messenger bag does look better, but more importantly, its easier to move around to avoid hitting people, easier to get into (You don't have to take the whole thing off to get your gear) etc.

I take whatever I'm eating duing the day to work in a plastic grocery bag. Just toss it in there. Works fine

I've seen people wearing backpacks on the front more often - on hikes & airports.

Also - the teens I know are taking backpacks with them. Not just for school. Some of it for looks - mountain biker style, or - also to hide their contraband

So I make the post here about backpacks on public transportation and this article dated August 27 shows up in my Facebook feed today. Coincidence?

As 'L' trains get more jammed, backpacks a bulging problem
