The Hall is free to choose whichever cap it wants to for his plaque, but it's going to be beyond bizarre to have a Cardinals plaque while he talks Angels this and that.
why would it matter to the HOF (who chooses what team is on his cap), who albert is employed by? it doesn't...

former players retire and get jobs with front offices all of the time.

i agree though, that it will be bizarre when albert goes in as a cardinal, but can't come back here for a ceremony, get his red jacket, etc...don't know if the angels would be petty enough to stop him, but i'm sure they have every right with that personal service contract.

Because of the optics of it. The Hall may have the say on what cap is on his plaque, but his contract with the Angels may dictate what's in his speech.
i agree with you here. we have no idea what's in that contract, and it very well could have language that he can't mention the cardinals/can only speak about the angels/etc...who knows?

but the HOF isn't going to know what's in that contract...nor will they care.

they're not going to pick a team, that has 0% right to belong on the cap of a player, because of "optics" of that player being employed by another team.

Put the issue of the cap/plaque aside for a moment. Do we really think the personal services contract will prevent Albert from talking about getting drafted, coming up to the majors, etc in his acceptance speech? Like he'll thank his loved ones for support and immediately jump to year 12 of his career and ignore everything prior to it?

It's possible.

He got his milestone hits with the Angels, and the speech will be catalogued too.

There's a chance he may get a blank cap, but I don't think there's one for the Cardinals.

This. does. not. matter.

The HOF committee is not made up of a bunch of idiots.

again...

HRs...
STL - 445
LAA - 184

Hits...
STL - 2073
LAA - 1009

OPS...
STL - 1.037
LAA - .768

RAA...
STL - 659
LAA - -23 (negative 23)

WAR...
STL - 86.6
LAA - 13.3
(He's at 0.0 WAR since 2016)

if you take away STL stats, or just double LAA stats, then he's not a hall of famer. the ONLY reason he's even in the discussion, is because of the time in STL.

The stats are so lopsided in STL favor, it's laughable...truly laughable

like i said in another post...using your reasoning, albert could have hit 499 HRs and 2999 Hits with STL....but because he went over to LAA and hit one more of each, and now hit milestones of 500 HRs and 3000 Hits, that now LAA has to be in the discussion about a HOF cap choice. looks at those stats above...it's not even remotely close.

That's going to make for an awkward speech by avoiding the elephant in the room, regardless of what his plaque looks like.

Things will be even more awkward if archaeologists uncover the cuneiform tablet that contains his birth certificate.

Except it's more like 1/3 and 2/3. You're intentionally bending the argument, so I'm inclined not to reply after this. Not once have I disputed he had a better career with the Cardinals.

But, the milestones came with the Angels, he's going to be an Angels employee when he's inducted, and he may in fact have monetary incentive to explain to the Hall why he doesn't want to be inducted as a Cardinal/wants to be inducted as an Angel. They can go against his wishes; they'll also have to deal with the awkwardness if they do.

again, he cannot do that. it's not in the contract, nor can it be.

MLB obviously has to approve contracts, and there is a rule in place that prohibits monetary reasoning in terms of cap selection for the HOF....so there is nothing in the contract about the HOF and cap choice. there cannot be.
