Minding the Gap looks great!

I've been watching Post Radical on Viceland, another well-made skateboarding series. I don't even skate but I've really enjoyed it.

Michael wrote:I power watched, Godless, the new western on Netflix. I watched the whole series, so I liked it on some level, but overall I was disappointed. I feel like the show wasn't nearly as smart as it wanted to be. The dialog was overly pretentious and overwrought. Some of acting was also spoty. Michelle Dockery basically has one facial expression and Jeff Daniels was seriously miscast. I did like Jack O'Connell.

Also, I'm a socially liberal guy, but I feel like this series tried too hard to show it's socially progressive credentials. In order to do so, there was too much plot that didn't really make sense and didn't really go anywhere. As a contrast , a great example of an awesome progressive movie is Mad Max: Road Fury, which was progressive in a way where the world completely made sense. With Godless they tried to pack too much of that type stuff in to a tiny 1800's town to the point where the world felt totally contrived. Combine that with some of the unnatural pretentious dialog (hello Jeff Daniels) and my braining was rebelling against what I was watching way too often.

Godless isn't the worst thing on Netflix, but for me it was a letdown. That said, the reviews are pretty solid, so I'm in the minority with my opinion.
Same.

Felt like there were a handful of characters that could've been truly great but they only got to like 80% realization of their motivations and personalities. Scoot McNairy's Sheriff could've been a great, great character if he wasn't wandering for the entire show and his blindness was more consistent. It's basically trying to be Unforgiven if every character in Unforgiven was 20% less compelling.

I liked it better than you two. I loved Jeff Daniels as the religious sociopath outlaw. Agree re Bill McNue. Lots of wandering (some Biblical ref?) and
[SHOW]
the ghost Indian.
. Agree that most characters needed more development.

Disenchantment is pretty good. Like the second and third tier of Futurama episodes. It's just good to see episodes that are fun stories and not flimsy devices so Stewey can recreate a Van Halen music video (which is funny for some reason?) or Homer can get his foot stuck in a bear trap.

I bet it will get a little sharper in the second season.

Getting around to Sharp Objects. Episode 1 opens in St. Louis (they kinda butcher the geography) before heading to a fictional bootheel town where nobody speaks with a southern accent. It has a nice air of mystery and dread hanging about it. The True Detective comparisons seem pretty apt so far.

I'm watching it, but the similarities wane IMO.....the momentum it had at the beginning has come to a crawl.

Yes. And the True D comparisons really do fade after the first episode, other than the continuing sense of utter creepiness in a Southern town.

That said, I think while it's not True D it's really remarkable TV. The performances are awesome, the editing and cinematography too, the whole production lends Wind Gap the town this sticky humid feel through the TV that's rare to find in a show, and it has probably the best use of music this side of Silicon Valley on television.
