Earlier this week at Yellowstone there was a hotel worker that was attacked by a mother elk who was protecting her nursing calf. The kicker is that she was attacked in a parking lot... The elk had her calf hidden behind some cars so the lady never even knew they were there.

Person Seriously Injured By Elk

Date: June 4, 2018
Contact: Morgan Warthin, (307) 344-2015

* Charlene Triplett, age 51, from Las Vegas, Nevada, was attacked by a cow elk behind the Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel on Sunday, June 3.
* The elk was protecting a calf bedded down roughly 20 feet away and hidden by other cars. It’s not known if Ms. Triplett saw the calf or the elk prior to the encounter.
* The elk reportedly reared up and kicked Ms. Triplett multiple times with its front legs, hitting her head, torso, and back.
* Due to the severity of her injuries, Ms. Triplett was flown to the trauma center at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.
* At the time of the incident Ms. Triplett was off-duty. She is an employee at the Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel.
* Rangers remained in the area to warn others about the elk and calf. No citation was issued.
* Use caution around elk, especially during calving season: always remain at least 25 yards (23 meters) away from these animals.

I've driven by that trailhead dozens of times, but have never stopped to do the hike. I'll be there again this fall--I need to make the point of finally doing it.
report your findings!

it popped up on my computer and i was just like "i must go to there".

I've always wanted to skiing at Banff but didn't even think about a hike there

Woman gored by bison after crowd gets too close

On the morning of June 6, 59-year-old Kim Hancock of Santa Rosa, California, was gored by a bull bison at Fountain Paint Pot in the Lower Geyser Basin.
Hancock and a crowd of people approached within ten yards of the bison while walking along a boardwalk. At one point, people were closer than 15 feet from the bison. When it crossed the boardwalk, the bison became agitated and charged the crowd, goring Hancock. The bison immediately left the area.
Rangers responded to the incident and treated Hancock for a hip injury: she was transported by paramedic ambulance to the Big Sky Medical Center in Big Sky, Montana, in good condition.
This incident remains under investigation.
This is the second incident of a bison injuring a visitor in 2018 (previous release: Bison injures visitor at Old Faithful). There was one incident in 2017 and five in 2015.
In a little over a month, four people have been injured by wildlife in Yellowstone.
I got gored by my bull this spring. It wasn’t fun, fortunately I wasn’t seriously injured. Just like this lady, it was my own damn fault, don’t tempt the animals people.

Yellowstone tourist taunts a bison. He didn't get mauled, (dangit) but has been arrested.

Never been to Yellowstone. Oi, that traffic.

Just a few weeks ago, I returned from a month long camping trip. Drove from St. Louis to Badlands NP (US), Glacier NP (US), Waterton NP (CA), Banff NP (CA), Jasper NP (CA), Yoho NP (CA), Glacier NP (CA), Mt. Revelstroke NP (CA), and then down the Oregon Coast before heading back home. Our family has been crushing National Parks lately, hitting Zion, Bryce, Arches, Canyonlands, and Big Bend last year.

Banff and Jasper are two of my favorites, although I give the edge to Jasper since it is less busy. The Icefields Parkway between Banff and Jasper is one of the best attractions I've seen.

[expletive] that guy.

Go to Yellowstone if you have any interest in nature at all. Yeah the traffic sucks at times. We mainly found it bad around the big sites and near dark when a lot of people are leaving the park. Also when there is a buffalo jam. We got stuck in a 4 hour buffalo jam. Still though early in the morning, then again around late morning, mid afternoon, and after dark you just about have the road to yourself. It was the best vacation I've ever been on (granted I haven't been on many) and I can't wait to go back. Hell I want to move there someday. Preferably closer to the Tetons. What is amazing is you hear about all the crowds but if you get 50 yards off the road you basically have the place to yourself. We had two amazing lunches in the park. One on a mountain looking into this awesome valley and another right by a waterfall. Both we were maybe 100 yards tops off the road and there was no one else around. The lunch by the waterfall was incredible. We were eating and these little marmots were playing 10 yards in front of us. Then out of no where on the other side of the stream this moose comes and starts eating his lunch too. I was genuinely sad when we left for home. Not like oh crap my vacation is over, but sad that I didn't know when/if I'd ever get to go back.

Pretty much. All of this.
