Golden years, my ass.
As best I can recall, my golden years were roughly from 25 to 27 1/2.

It is also a sign you are getting old when you consider this to be heavy furniture

NYTimes is running a feature this morning about some found photos.

The copy makes it sound like an archeological discovery:
Six months ago, a parks official cleaning out an office came across two cardboard boxes that had been sitting around for decades. Inside were 2,924 color slides, pictures made in parks across New York City’s five boroughs late in the summer of 1978. No one had looked at them for 40 years. Until now, none of these images have ever been displayed or published. A selection of them are here and in a special print section... No one is sure, any more, how long the photographers worked or how much they were paid. Probably not long and not much.
I was a year into college that year.

Jeeeeezus.

those were cool pictures. the 70s have always seemed depressing to me, not sure why. every image/video/reel i've seen, everything looks faded, like it's been out in the sun too long. i realize there's technological issues with that but i suppose that "influences" my perceptions of the 70s. my folks were married in the 70s, '76 i believe, and my oldest brother was born in '78, that's really the only "connection" i have to that decade. it's also weird how we just pop in at certain moments in time and have to try and catch up to everything that has happened prior. i've been on this planet 34 years and what i have done?

Color photographs from that era have definitely faded like you say. But slides use a different technique where the colors hold. My dad's slides from the 50's and 60's still look good.

I was born in 1978 and that's the only connection I have to the 70s. My parents were married in December of 1977 but that marriage ended in 2008 right after I turned 30 so that one is no longer a connection. After I turn 40 this Saturday, I won't think about the 70s again until I turn 50, assuming I'm even still around with the way I take care of myself.
