My guess is that they were laying the groundwork prepared to be buyers and then this six game losing streak blew that all to heck and they weren't prepared to be sellers but at least got a good return for Stastny.

Here’s the conditions of the trade (just FYI)...
So it’s not a 1st, a 4th AND foley. Just get the 4th if we fail to sign foley. The "conditions" on the draft picks are as follows.
• If the Jets end up picking in the top three overall in the 2018 draft, the Blues' get Winnipeg's first-round pick in 2019 instead. But with the Jets among the NHL's elite teams, currently with 83 points, that won't happen. So the Blues will get the first-rounder this year. That's an important piece of the trade, because the Blues don't have their original first-rounder in the upcoming draft — it goes to Philadelphia as the final part of the Brayden Schenn trade.
• The Blues get the fourth-rounder only if they fail to re-sign Foley on or before Aug. 15, 2019.

Gossip time!
Here's the blow-by-blow for the rest of the group.
Dan Bettlach of ESPN101 reported, citing sources he did not name, that there is a Steen-Petro divide in the dressing room.
Kelly Chase very publicly squashed that.
Ah, Twitter.
I can't confirm any Steen-Petro factions.
That said, you don't have to be a Blues insider to understand why the team would not be in the highest of spirits at the moment. They're getting their tails kicked. Six-game losing streak and some embarrassing efforts before that.
Mike Yeo has had to treat these guys like high school kids.
He punishes them by making them skate lines in practice. He forces them to sit in front of their lockers and talk to the media after terrible losses. He called them in and sent them home, leaving the impression that they needed to get right before being on the ice.
I don't know what else you want him to do. At some point it's about personal pride. And I do think it's fair to question Petro and the player leadership in place for having a role in the downward trend of this team as the season has progressed.

So.. thoughts on the rumor of a divided locker room with the Blues? I know Chase came out and said there was nothing to it.. but this team has no heart and its showing I think that is what has a lot if fans upset.

When is Armstrong going to get the axe? He just can't quite seem to get the mix right, over and over and over again.

Hey! After 150 minutes the Blues have a goal!
And they're still losing.
And they're still losing.

Late to the party, but good trade! Team isn't going anywhere, and getting a 1st back is a big help. (even if its a late 1st) Prospect seems kinda meh, take the 4th.
I'm sad they couldn't move one of the 4 big contracts, but I'm sure teams didn't want to take on that much salary for that long without sending a bad salary back. Maybe if the cap goes up, someone will look at Berglund's year last year and take a chance on him in a trade.

Foley is a better prospect than a 4th rounder.

I hope you're right. I admittedly know next to nothing about the minors these days. Had read somewhere he was a depth guy who might not transition to the pro game, but now I can't even find that, so disregard my comment.MrCrowesGarden wrote:JCShutout wrote:Late to the party, but good trade!
