another week, another injury...
Edmundson out six weeks with broken forearm
the injury was a compound fracture, meaning the bone broke the skin. Edmundson had surgery to repair the injury on Thursday night and the team said the operation was “successful.” If he returns in the minimum of six weeks, Edmundson would be getting back in late March, with about two weeks to go in the season.

Edmundson has a career-high six goals and nine assists this season and has developed into one of the stalwarts of the team's defense, averaging the third-most ice time per game on the team behind Alex Pietrangelo and Colton Parayko. “(He's) a big stay-at-home guy, blocks a lot of shots, plays a lot of hard minutes,” goalie Carter Hutton said.

Edmundson leads the team in blocked shots with 125, and that's apparently what cost him. He blocked two shots in succession in the first period and fell to the ice. He went to the dressing room and didn't return.

The team has called up veteran defenseman Chris Butler from San Antonio

Trade deadline Monday and I don't know what the Blues will do. Unlike the Cardinals, the Blues really don't make money unless they make the playoffs (with each round being worth $3-$6 million.)

At the same time, this team is skidding badly and right on that edge of make/miss the playoffs entirely. Even adding one of the better players available like Brassard (rental) or Hoffman (one extra year) probably gets the Blues to the second round as a best case scenario. And the reported asking price of those two player is said to be high, with Ottawa wanting one of Thomas/Kyrou/Dunn, a 2nd and Fabbri. The future of the Blues looks pretty bright with some of those names I mentioned, but of course prospects have flamed out before too.

I'll be interested to see what happens. Whether they're buyers, sellers (would probably love to dump Berglund and Sobotka, but Stastny is probably the best movable asset) or holders.

try and trade sobotka (that contract was dumb/don't know why they did it), but that's it.

but i'm not trading any of the young studs (kostin, thomas, kyrou, thompson, dunn) for anything. That core could bring us a cup/some of the best young guys we've ever had.

if they want a lesser prospect? fine. but we also don't have a 1st round pick to give either.

but this team is too inconsistent...not worth the prospects on a rental.

I think the studs list is too many by about half, but I think they'll most likely hold. They may just need to dump Sobotka and Berglund regardless. To borrow a Cards Talk phrase, it's gotten stale in that clubhouse.

What stinks is, the Berglund and Sobotka contracts, in a vaccum, aren't bad. They just don't work together, with Steen's expensive regression, and Gunnarson and JayBo costing so much money. A team can afford to pay a little more for a 3rd line/#3/4D anchor if its the right guy and they spend the rest of their money wisely... the problem is we have 5 of those guys and really only need one. (I'd keep Steen, though I'm worried about the number of years on his deal)

This crossed my mind too. The Blues literally can't afford a slip in attendance, but the roster is in an awkward no man's land right now. I'm very curious to see how it plays out.

So not Bortuzzo is on the IR with a knee injury. Awesome. I'm worried that this team is toast this year. I'm just not feeling them at all at this point and it is getting tough to even watch the games.
