well as i was writing that, i completely forgot noah hawley's involvement with Legion, so he gets a pass.ghostrunner wrote:Fargo is on hold indefinitely as far as I know.go birds wrote:what is with the huge delay in show premieres lately?
GOT: not until some time in 2019 after a year and a half hiatus
Westworld: 2nd season premiere's nearly a year and a half after the 1st season ended
Better Call Saul: season 4 JUST started filming and there is no timetable for season 4
Fargo? not til 2019
GOT is somewhat understandable considering how insane the production is, but it seems to me the other examples should have already been planned for and had their production ramped up in timely fashion.
Those are just a few that come to mind.
Maybe im just being overly critical and impatient.
Sopranos was exactly like this though. Curb Your Enthusiasm is pretty much whenever Larry David feels like doing it. Louie was like that too.
speaking of legion, it comes back in april, so that's exciting

I decided to give it a shot and have only seen the first two episodes. So far I like it better than most of Black Mirror, at least all but the Black Museum episode of the latest season.Hoot45 wrote:Anyone try Electric Dreams on Amazon Prime? People keep describing it as another Black Mirror type show.
I've watched about half of the season so far. It's a little more sci-fi than Black Mirror and a lot less thought provoking. Plenty of big names, some decent episodes, and a few others that felt like a waste of time. More than anything I just have an even greater appreciation for how well done Black Mirror is.
I think both are plagued by similar problems, they scratch the surface of a few interesting aspects and keep building/repeating the setup for a "twist" finale that feels underwhelming. Most episodes could almost be halved or spend more time exploring the impacts or commentary. It seems like the resolution of episodes in each just raises the questions instead of making the comment on it. For instance 15 Million Merits makes some interesting commentary on work, work/life balance, advertising, desire for fame and to what lengths people will go through to escape them.
Others feel like all setup or just a surprise twist that doesn't give you time to reflect on it's commentary - White Bear is perfect example of this one, IMO. And that's kind of how I feel about Electric Dreams after the two episodes.

Everything Sucks is like Stranger Things if it was set in the 90s, didn't have horror elements and was terrible. Fun watching a show filmed at my high school though.

Watching Black Mirror makes me appreciate how perfectly done Twilight Zone was. In an era of strict controls on TV, still managed to be creepy as hell, and do it with almost no fat on its bones.

You're from Boring, Oregon? Awesome!BottenFieldofDreams wrote:Everything Sucks is like Stranger Things if it was set in the 90s, didn't have horror elements and was terrible. Fun watching a show filmed at my high school though.
I'm about 5 episodes into Everything Sucks. It's basically Freaks and Geeks, but for the 90s, and with an untalented cast and writing team. I'm pretty sure they spent their entire budget clearing rights to Oasis and Spin Doctors tracks and then forgot they needed writers and actors.

I haven't seen this show in question, but it seems like more and more shows and movies are trying to turn the 90s into The 80s: Part II! Now with more lunchables and flannel!!! And that's [expletive] annoying to me.heyzeus wrote:You're from Boring, Oregon? I guess if you were 8 and younger by the time the 90s ended, it probably has the same dumb pop-toned tacky veneer of the 80s*. But otherwise, they were very different decades with very different tones.
*which has its place, by the way... in 80s nostalgia. Just not in 90s nostalgia

You ever watch a show with some promise, think "well this isn't great, but it could find its voice and develop its characters as it goes on?"lukethedrifter wrote:heyzeus wrote:You're from Boring, Oregon? I'm still hoping.
