I watched Altered Carbon on Netflix. It's a tough show to recommend, but I also can't completely dismiss it. Altered Carbon is a big budget high concept sci fi series where in the future humans can transport their memories/conscious to different bodies via a chip implant. That sets up the story about a guy who is woken up after 250 years in a new body in order to solve a mystery.

The production values are some of the best on TV with a blade runner look and feel. Unfortunately there's some really spotty acting and the dialog isn't nearly as smart as it wants to be. Additionally, some of the plot twists are kinda disappointing. That's a shame because the show has a lot of cool scenes and interesting ideas. Because of the shows potential if they create a 2nd season I'll most likely give it a try, but if the first few episodes are weak I'll most likely drop it.

BottenFieldofDreams wrote:Pete Holmes is an interesting guy. His podcast is unlistenable, IMO, because he's the least generous interviewer alive: wait, wait don't answer that, I'm going to make a joke and howl with laughter for a full 2 and half minutes. But he's also endearingly goofy and happy, which can be really refreshing because comics are all miserable SOBs.

His story, too, is really interesting. It plays out more or less on Crashing, which I'm really enjoying. Great for people with an interest in comedy and seeing a deeply religious guy wander off the path.
I really like his podcast, but every once in a while I turn off an episode about 15 mins in for this reason. When I started listening I was preoccupied with deciding how much of his affect is actually genuine and to what extent he's a sad clown inside. I've determined that it's pretty legitimate and I'm jealous of how he came out of the same indoctrinating culture that I did with such a sunny disposition about the whole thing and some sort of Buddhist outlook instead of angrily reading Christopher Hitchens constantly.

Crashing has gotten really good this season.

Anyone catch AP Bio?

Even going out of my feed, everything on netflix is super ass dark. Or is 8t my imagination? Sign of the times perhaps.

Star Trek Discovery had their season finale Sunday for all you that were waiting for it to all become available so you could binge watch it during a free trial.

what is with the huge delay in show premieres lately?

GOT: not until some time in 2019 after a year and a half hiatus
Westworld: 2nd season premiere's nearly a year and a half after the 1st season ended
Better Call Saul: season 4 JUST started filming and there is no timetable for season 4
Fargo? not til 2019

GOT is somewhat understandable considering how insane the production is, but it seems to me the other examples should have already been planned for and had their production ramped up in timely fashion.

Those are just a few that come to mind.

Maybe im just being overly critical and impatient.

I'm not too mad, because I just got into GOT.

BTW, Game of Thrones is [expletive] great.

Fargo is on hold indefinitely as far as I know.

Sopranos was exactly like this though. Curb Your Enthusiasm is pretty much whenever Larry David feels like doing it. Louie was like that too.

really?? I thought it was fantastic...easily the best show netflix has made to date IMO. I watched it once myself, then the wife wanted to see it so I watched it a 2nd time.

of course I love superhero flicks, so....
