Anyone try Electric Dreams on Amazon Prime? People keep describing it as another Black Mirror type show.

I've watched about half of the season so far. It's a little more sci-fi than Black Mirror and a lot less thought provoking. Plenty of big names, some decent episodes, and a few others that felt like a waste of time. More than anything I just have an even greater appreciation for how well done Black Mirror is.

I recently discovered the BBC series for Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy on Hulu. Excellent find.

Netflix's Dark is phenomenal. It's, well, dark, german, has a terrific score, is super compelling sci fi (don't want to get into specifics b/c spoilers), has plot reveals that are obvious enough you can figure stuff out before they're spelled out for you but difficult enough that you feel smug when you do, and is beyond all of those things a great representation of [expletive] up small town communities with multi-generational ties.

I wonder how alone I am in liking the movie. I watched it again a couple weeks ago and it was as good as I remembered. Never read the book so that might have helped. I’m guessing it cut a lot from the book but on its own it’s a tight funny movie. Good cast too. Side benefit that I could watch with the kids around even though it wasn’t made for kids.

I also enjoyed the movie. Sure, not everything is in there but you just can't fit everything in a single movie from the book because there was so much. So far the TV series has done pretty good but I still find myself going back to the movie with my thoughts all the time with regards to the characters. I still picture Ford Prefect as Mos Def for example. Not that there's anything wrong with the casting in the BBC show, I just think that the movie nailed it. After seeing the movie, it is also hard to take Trillian as an 80s style frizzy haired blonde. Of course the special effects with Zaphod's second head are terrible but the show did come out in like 1981 so I can overlook that.

I'm halfway through it and would already agree that it is phenomenal. It took me a little while to look past the English voiceovers, but everything is so well done that I could see this show cracking in to my top 10 list if they can keep the story going.

I grew up with the British TV version of HHGTTG, and read the books over and over again growing up. I even loved the original radio series, which is well worth tracking down if you enjoyed any of the other incarnations of the story.

Yes, the effects are a bit naff at times, but it's just so much fun, so many wild ideas in every minute of it.

I don't know why but it never occurred to me until your post to track down the radio series to listen to. I'm listening to the first episode right now. So far it sounds just like listening to the TV show since at least the narrator and Arthur Dent are played by the same people between the show and radio broadcast.
