Yep. Forgoing the Marlins may wind up leading to Stanton being a Cardinal.

Reading Strauss' articles from that time...it's amazing how the Cardinals nailed Pujols' decline. The offer that pissed Albert off was the 5-year, $130 million one. Pujols would have been a free agent going into 2017 and the Cardinals probably come close to getting exact value.

Pujols wasn't wrong. I always took that offer to mean the Cardinals didn't want him.
Obviously the Cardinals were right.

I'm not sure how I feel about that offer looking back. Maybe the Cardinals really did offer knowing he would decline. Either way, kudos to them for their calculus.

According to Juan Manuel Moreno of La Prensa in Mexico, the Pirates are showing interest in free agent starter Jaime Garcia.
Garcia pitched for three different teams (Braves, Twins, Yankees) in 2017, posting a 4.41 ERA, 1.41 WHIP, and 129/64 K/BB ratio in 157 innings. The 31-year-old left-hander could be a nice buy-low option for the cost-conscious Pirates, though he also had underwhelming numbers with the Cardinals in 2016 and he carries an ugly history of elbow and shoulder problems.

Re: Former Cardinals Watch
Call me crazy but I was always rooting for Jaime and think he'd be a decent buy low option for a team who needs one. His injury history is a concern but when he was healthy for the Cards, he was really good. He just couldn't stay healthy or admit when his shoulder was getting too bad and tried to struggle through it to his own, and the team's, detriment too often.Jocephus wrote:

Re: Former Cardinals Watch
It feels like Jaime Garcia should be like 37 by now. He'll only be 31 next season. Crazy.
