My first phone was a Nokia. I remember talking to my girl friend on it and getting pissed and launching it at the kitchen cabinets. As soon as it left my hand I thought crap. It exploded into several pieces. I gathered everything snapped it back together and it worked just like before.CardsofSTL wrote:Rant: They just don't make phones like they used to; can't even stand up to being thrown across the room anymore.

Re: Random musings
An old Motorola of mine got a tour of the underside of Busch II years ago. We were sitting in the last row of section 160 and it slipped out of my pocket, slid on t he wet metal floor and fell down through the gap between the stands and the concourse onto a concrete floor. After it fell, I could see it sitting there on the ground. I flagged down the usher and showed it to her and about 20 minutes later my phone was back in my hands with only one new small dent and worked perfectly.Diddy wrote:My first phone was a Nokia. Now if I drop a phone more than four inches the screen breaks into a million pieces. The screen on my work iPad has a crack running from top to bottom which isn't bad but I have no idea how it happened. It was perfectly fine when I put it in the pocket on the back
of a seat in a friend's truck and came out cracked. My Windows tablet came out with a similar crack from my carry on during a flight to Boston for work last year too. Obviously I didn't pack that carefully enough.

Even with the hands free in my truck I hate to talk on the phone when I am driving.

I just learned there are both Folgers and Maxwell House Keurig packs. I thought the point if Keurig was that it pretends not to be instant coffee?

I don't think so? They're useful for families like mine where I drink coffee but 2 cups max and my wife doesn't drink coffee at all.Arthur Dent wrote:I just learned there are both Folgers and Maxwell House Keurig packs. I thought the point if Keurig was that it pretends not to be instant coffee?
My father in law has this reusable, refillable Keurig cup thing that he puts his Folgers in.

Those are different things though. There's instant coffee that dissolves completely, then there's coffee you put in a filter that the water passes through leaving the soaked grounds behind. Folgers and Maxwell House have both kinds, I think. Keurig is only the second type.Arthur Dent wrote:I just learned there are both Folgers and Maxwell House Keurig packs. Keurigs never seem to make the coffee strong enough for me.

Re: Random musings
I should be ashamed of myself... but I'm not.
I've only reported to my boss for three months. I started supporting the team I'm paired up with for 2018 earlier this month. Since my boss knew nothing of me prior to me reporting to him, I took advantage of being so recently paired up with the new team and sent a follow up email to the team I support regarding an issue that had everybody freaking out yesterday to let them know the issues were fixed and that I validated a few other things just to make sure that the fix didn't mess anything else up. Since we're still building the relationships and trust with the team I support, I knew that I was very likely to get appreciative responses with my boss copied in and it worked WAAAAY better than I imagined.
I had nothing to do with the fix. The things I validated took less than five minutes. They already knew that IT had corrected the error. But heck, I figure that now is my chance because something so small will have a much bigger impact for my review this year than next year when we have more history so I went fishing for compliments like a brown nose. I've made the mistake of not advocating for myself during the review process in the past so it's on this year.
