Well, if that's true, then the Giants can have him. As fans, we can say what we want about budgets and revenue and increasing payroll blah blah blah, but that contract is a beast and taking on the whole thing would almost certainly affect the way the Cards operate no matter what we say on here. I don't like the "Stars and Scrubs" approach any more than I like the current "no stars, no scrubs" approach. We need stars. And we need good players that cost money. And we can't have both just through draft and development (though we can come closer than most teams).Transmogrified Tiger wrote:Sorry if this was mentioned, I scanned the last few pages and didn't see it.
Even just a little financial relief -- like the 3-5M per year after the opt out that I've been proposing -- helps make that happen.

Also... I'm not seeing anything like that on Craig Mish's own Twitter feed. So... not sure about it's validity.

I'm just gonna disagree with you there Fat. They're going to have to something "unCardinaly" whether it's now or in the near future. It's going to royally suck if money is the deciding factor.

The tweet seems to imply Mish said it on McKernan's radio show. With any type of rumor we can take it with a grain of salt, but while I didn't hear the spot I think it's fair to assume Mish said it.Fat Strat wrote:Also... Craig Mish says "he has been told...............".
Probably told by the Marlins, in order to beef up the Cardinals' offer.

I've been willing to take on the whole contract. Sure, $3-5MM per year of potential savings is nothing to sneeze at, but that also doesn't buy you much in MLB these days either.

With new t.v. deals these teams know exactly what that side of the business will bring in. No variables; exact numbers. And considering that these deals are in the $BILLIONS$ they have the cash to do it without worrying about how many butts sit in seats. Nothing should keep us from taking every cent of that deal, if we think he's a necessary piece.
