Re: Former Cardinals Watch
Tigers signed RHP Mark Montgomery to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
The former Yankees prospect had a nice season at Triple-A in the Cardinals' organization in 2017, holding a 2.43 ERA and 73/15 K/BB ratio over 66 2/3 innings. Montgomery will try to win a bullpen spot in spring training.

I'm not a scout, but I don't understand why Montgomery wasn't given more of a chance, especially with how poorly the bullpen performed and how Matt Bowman was sucking wind for four months. Everything I've read says he had a 70 grade slider and he seemed to solve his control issues.

Yeah, I wonder the same thing. They didn't have anything to lose, really.Farewell Friends wrote:I'm not a scout, but I don't understand why Montgomery wasn't given more of a chance, especially with how poorly the bullpen performed and how Matt Bowman was sucking wind for four months.
