Is that Heyward contract a bust yet?

I can't believe this guy can't hit for power, especially when EVErYONE is hitting for power. It's crazy.

Not to mention, his defensive value has taken a significant step in the wrong direction this year. Only 6 more years left on that contract!
BUT... there's always that opt-out!

Hahaha, he would have to be a total bonehead to opt out. If he were to become a free agent wouldn't get more then 1 year offers.

Matt Adams 2017: .274/.319/.522 - 117 OPS+

Matt Adams career: .271/.315/.469 - 111 OPS+

He also got hurt (again), hit .180/.206/.377 against lefties and after starting to look like typical Matt Adams in July, the Braves started him in just 14 games from August 1 on.

Inside the complete overhaul of Jason Heyward's struggling swing
Dec. 5, that’s when he started, less than five weeks after the Cubs won the World Series. Jason Heyward was not messing around. He had moved to the Phoenix area so he could be closer to the Cubs’ training facility, and focus on remaking his swing.

It was the baseball equivalent of learning to walk again. And Heyward — coming off a career-worst offensive season, one of the worst offensive seasons, in fact, that any major leaguer endured in 2016 — knew that it had to be done.

“He was humbled from last year and wanted to work, wanted to get better,” Cubs assistant hitting coach Eric Hinske said. “Sometimes it takes a tough year to want to make a change. He’s a proud dude. He wants to be great. It really hurt him, the year he had last year.”

So, entering the offseason, hitting coach John Mallee implemented a multi-faceted plan, making Heyward uncomfortable so he could develop a new approach and grow more comfortable again.
“He may be better than he ever was,” Mallee said. “I’m very happy for him. His mind is in the right place. He has done a lot of mental stuff. It’s really special what he has put into this.”
Jason Heyward 2017: .259/.326/.389 - 88 OPS+

I assumed Haren was still pitching somewhere but it appears he retired in 2015.
