Colby Rasmus (hip) will not return this season.
Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times says Rasmus has informed the Rays that he wants to "step away" from baseball, and the club in turn placed him on the restricted list Thursday. Rasmus has been sidelined since the middle of June because of lingering discomfort in his surgically-repaired hip. He had a cool .896 OPS with nine home runs and 23 RBI in 37 games this season for the Rays.

Jhonny Peralta has been released by the Red Sox, is that it for his career? I guess he might get a nonroster invite to ST next year but him making a team is unlikely unless he drastically improves.

They decided to start coaching him again? Why didn't they coach him the last few weeks?Johnconrad wrote:Matt Adams with another bomb today

Common knowledge he'd been out of the lineup for some time with a contusion on his foot.

I asked a few people around the office. Turns out nobody knew Matt Adams had a foot contusion.

This Rasmus story is weird:
http://www.ledger-enquirer.com/sports/a ... 70198.htmlColby Rasmus’ father, Tony Rasmus, who coached him on those Russell County High and Phenix City Little League teams, posted his reaction to his son stepping away from the Tampa Bay Rays and Major League Baseball on his Facebook page:
“Well a sad day today as Colby’s hip just wouldn’t heal and I’m not sure he wanted to have another surgery on it. Playing in the big leagues is a tough gig and Colby’s body has taken a beating. So he’s saying goodbye to Major League Baseball. Man it’s sure been fun watching him play. 8 plus years and 165 home runs for a skinny kid from Phenix city Alabama just isn’t too bad.”
In an interview Friday with the Ledger-Enquirer, Tony Rasmus expressed bewilderment about the cryptic way the Rays announced his son’s departure.
Tony said, “I had so many people calling me saying, ‘My God, I’m praying for him and his family.’ And I’m like, ‘What? Why?’ We appreciate all the prayers, don’t get me wrong, but there’s nothing wrong. It’s just his hip.”
The Rays’ statement “reads like he should be on suicide watch,” Tony said. “It leaves the wrong impression, that there’s something happening, but there’s nothing,” he said.

Tony Rasmus sticking his nose in it, worried about the ole family reputation. Who would have thought. I'm sure he's posting on a Cardinals message board somewhere blaming TLR for his son's hip problems.
