i now know what it feels like to be called to set up a phone interview only to be called later and told that the first call was a mistake.

Wow. That is brutal. I'm assuming it was for a job you had applied for? If so, they're missing out I'm sure.

You should get a pity interview and then automatically hired at 20% over what you were asking to begin with just for the humiliation. At least that is how I would make things right if I were spending somebody else's money and not worried about my job.

People from our company's buildings in St. Louis decided to start a work softball league this spring. Five out of the six buildings in St. Louis are actually fielding teams and it has been a lot of fun but they got such a late start putting it together that nobody really considered something simple like shirts. It was enough work just to get the teams put together and the league going and set up with a field, ASA umpire, etc.

The first week we showed up and saw that one of the teams did actually have shirts. I guess that got somebody on my team motivated and for our third game of the season, we'll have shirts for tonight! They were just delivered to the office today. Right on time. We may not play better than our opponent's facility's team but we'll look better while losing.

The team we play tonight went the suck up route and chose regular purple t-shirts with the company name and softball on the front and then their building name on the back and the lettering is a bright neon green type of color which our company is very fond of these days. They are actually pretty decent looking shirts admittedly.

We decided to go not only up the game to a dri-fit material and 3/4 sleeves but we also went old-school with our colors. We chose a darker grey with red sleeves and white lettering. On the front is the "M" logo that we use here in the states and on the back is our building name and number. Before the merger was complete in November 2015, those were our company's colors and all but a few of us on my team have been here since before the merger so the throwback colors felt appropriate. I wasn't sure about the color scheme at first but after seeing it, they came out really well. I'll wear that shirt out in public and to my other softball league regularly.

Now to see if we can get the company to pay for them. $20 each at the most if they won't but we're hoping that somebody will step up and let us expense half like they did at the other building so that we only pay $10 each. We're talking puny money to a company our size.

They should give points in the standings for fun in rec softball. We got beat yet again last night (still searching for our first win of the season at 0-2-1) but our team has the most fun in the league by far. Our game wasn't until 8pm so the entire team got together in Tower Grove Park after work to bbq and have a few drinks. We showed up to the game in Lyon Park barely in time, got beat and then about half of us went to Broadway Oyster Bar. The other teams are boring. Sure, they're better at softball but they don't have nearly as much fun.
