If I wanted a normal luxury car I'd look hard at Audi. If I wanted a performance luxury car I still don't think I could pass up an AMG Mercedes. They are sledgehammers in a world of CNC cutting. Sledgehammers are a lot of fun.

If you're wanting the best might as well go w/ the "Black" edition as well.

They're in the mix w/ the Q7....but there are plenty other rivals. Depending on your style preference the Mercedes G-Wagon's are pretty top notch (as goes for the AMG versions of their top SUV models), but you've also got Porsche Cayenne's, Range Rovers (which I wouldn't own, but I still think they look nice), and my dark horse is the new Volvo XC 90's

I saw a brand new AMG GLE at Wal Mart of all places. That's a weird looking vehicle. Basically a car body on SUV tires/platform.

I really like them. Not much of a car guy, but it's incredibly comfortable and forgiving to drive with the pretty reliable lane correction and auto cruise control. Took one on a like 30 hour road trip one week and was really impressed. Drove a couple Lexuses as well and really preferred the volvo.
