They'll let him get third all time in wins before cutting him loose.
They'll be on the outside of the playoff picture looking in when that actually comes to pass.

So much for that idea.

you know what'll happen...they'll stay on the fringe of the playoff chase and not trade him at the 3/1 deadline....so he'll walk in FA, like the others last year, and we'll get nothing in return.

the time to trade him/max out what we could get was the offseason, where a team would have him for the whole season. now teams can just say, why would i trade anything worthwhile for him, when i can just wait a couple months and sign him in FA? i mean, the trade deadline is 3/1, and the playoffs start at the beginning of april...so if you trade for him, you're basically getting a month of regular season play, then the playoffs. i just don't see anyone giving us anything great for shatty (and rightfully so). army will see that as well, and just hold on to him to see if they can squeak in the playoffs.

so, i'd take anyone really in a trade for him...just get SOMETHING for him!

i hope i'm wrong...i just don't see it though...

They have mentioned he's open to a sign and trade, which is different than years past. If he is just a rental, the best hope is probably a late 1st. I do agree we should've traded him in the offseason... or the offseason before that.

I think they moved Hitch in part to truly evaluate the team and not feel like they have to go for it.

i hear ya...

i actually would prefer to sign shatty ourselves, and move petro and say fabbri for a really, really good piece.

i obv like petro more, but just think he can bring a heck of a lot more in a return.

Boy, I'd have to be blown away to move Petro. I don't see it happening, of course, but I think any team who would want him won't give up what it would take to get him. Toronto would have to give up Marner, for instance.

There is one guy on the Leafs that I'd trade Petro straight up for (and I'd add a bit to Petro for him). Marner and Nylander don't move the needle for me, mostly since they don't currently and might not ever play center. The add to either would be significant enough that Toronto would (rightfully) balk.

Nylander is trash in a Petro trade. Marner piques my interest quite a bit, to be honest. Obviously Matthews isn't going to happen (but neither is Petro getting traded).

It sucks, but they need to be sellers at the deadline. There MIGHT have been a slight chance that the goalie play turns around to an extent, but the whole team is just not playing to their potential and the Fabbri injury was kind of the final nail in the coffin (for me at least).

In the event that they did actually make it in the playoffs as a #7 or 8 seed they have absolutely ZERO chance of beating either the Wild or the Hawks (which look to be the two that will battle out 1st and 2nd).
