Just curious....is that how much these bottle of bourbon cost?
They cost me almost zero, so it's not really about the money.
One was a gift.
The other, here's the play, which was taught to me by the guy who gifted me one of those. You go to estatesales dot net. You look at estate sales in your area. I look in and around Chicago, the burbs, as far south as Bloomington/Normal, parts of WI and MI. I see one with a pic of a bar, and there's booze on it. I reach out to the person conducting the estate sale. "Hi there, I see you're conducting this estate sale. Anyhow, there's a bar with booze on it and you can't legally sell the booze, so I was wondering if there's a fair amount there, and if there is, I'll make it worth your time to hold it for me." I find out what's there, then I hop in the car and go, with a couple hundred bucks cash in my pocket. I've gotten pretty lucky with some of these. A couple times, for $150-200, I've left with 10 cases of booze. Some of it is junk. Old bottles of Galliano that I open only to take a sip to see just how bad it is, then dump it down the drain. But then among the junk there will be a case of 1980s Old Forester or something. I've been doing this for a few years, 3-4 times a year. I've never come across a single Van Winkle, which I figure is because either the children of the estate or the estate manager sees it and knows what it is, but I have a fair bit of very cool vintage stuff that I got for next to nothing.
I've drank a little, I've given quite a bit away to friends, and I've traded a few to get something else I want, but I've never sold any. I'd guess those two little bottles could fetch a couple hundred bucks.
