It's kind of interesting that Rasmus and Heyward were both top-5 prospects in 2009, both were first-round picks, and both are basically now the same player--a great defender who can't hit a lick. And Rasmus got a QO last year for $15MM and Heyward got a $184MM multi-year deal.

I wouldn't call Rasmus a great defender. Defensive metrics only like him every other year, right?

Can't ignore that Rasmus is currently 30 while Heyward's 27. Those years make a difference, particularly with new research on aging curves showing decline starts earlier than previously thought. Also significant: In the three years leading up to last offseason (ie, 2013-2015), Rasmus totaled 9 WAR compared to Heyward's 14.5. They're not that similar in stat profile either; Rasmus is a regular 20-25 HR low OBP hitter, Heyward hasn't exceeded 15 since 2012 and, before this year, was pretty adept at getting on base.

Heyward just amazes me. I remember his rookie season and thinking his future was unlimited. To not have hit 15 dingers since then baffles me.

Heyward has a reputation for heating up during the end of summer. Since August 1st Heyward is hitting .223/.252/.300/.552.

If Reyes wanted to be a fireman Tony should have made him a closer.
