Young people are voting for Bernie in Dictator-fabricated like majorities. That brings me hope for these issues. I don't have a strong position on basic income, but something is going to have to be worked out. We're going to have to share.

I give it about another 45 to 50 years. Once the generation that was taught you need to earn something through some sort of effort and the greed is good generations are gone and replaced by the Millennials, basic income will be needed.Schlich wrote:Paul Ryan's comments, the collapse of the republican party and its eventual replacement with something that resembles actual and logical fiscal conservatism, and the sheer desperation that will be brought on by the continuing growth of income inequality, all give me cautious optimism that this will happen sooner rather than later. 50 years might be a good estimate but I'd hope for something closer to 20 or 30. Either way, I'll still be young, alive, and kickinIMADreamer wrote:Schlich wrote:I'm all about Basic Income. Milton Friedman is a big proponent of it as well, so I'm thinking it might be one of those things that might have a chance of bipartisan support down the road.
I just can't envision a day when you see the right even thinking about voting for this. These are the same people that want to do away with welfare and Medicaid. The think people who want a higher minimum wage are lazy. No chance in the next 50 years that we get basic income.
I'm not stuck in today's political realities. Political landscapes shift a lot. We're still seeing the fallout of "welfare reform" that really started/kicked up in the 90's with gingrich, from what I understand. I think it's about at its end.

This shows how automation would still make sense even if you cut the driver's salary to zero.

Yeah but they're gonna have to build new roads ao these things caravans can drive at 45 mph without causing road ragers to take pot shots at them.

I think a better approach would be to build a national hyperloop system. Just put it down the median of interstates since we already own the right of way.AWvsCBsteeeerike3 wrote:Yeah but they're gonna have to build new roads ao these things caravans can drive at 45 mph without causing road ragers to take pot shots at them.

What about where there is no median? It's a good idea. But giventura our current risk aptitude for bettering public transport I'll guess it's not happening in the next decade.New Pagodi wrote:I think a better approach would be to build a national hyperloop system. Adidas, the German maker of sportswear and equipment, has announced it will start marketing its first series of shoes manufactured by robots in Germany from 2017.
More than 20 years after Adidas ceased production activities in Germany and moved them to Asia, chief executive Herbert Hainer unveiled to the press the group’s new prototype “Speedfactory” in Ansbach, southern Germany.
The 4,600-square-metre plant is still being built but Adidas opened it to the press, pledging to automate shoe production – which is currently done mostly by hand in Asia – and enable the shoes to be made more quickly and closer to its sales outlets.
The factory will deliver a first test set of around 500 pairs of shoes from the third quarter of 2016.
Large-scale production will begin in 2017 and Adidas was planning a second “Speed Factory” in the United States in the same year, said Hainer.
