Spring time lawns!

hahaha I've gotten so tired of it. Tried to take care of my lawn last year and thought I did a decent job getting rid of a lot of the weeds while getting some grass to grow. Some areas are awesome zosia. Some areas are some other grass. Then this spring, it was all purple flower weeds and other [expletive]. Back at it. AFter a couple rounds of scotts weed and feed, we're almost looking like someone cares for it. Also, this flowerbed in the front yard had been totally taken over by weeds. Instead of pulling them all which would have taken approximately 6 months, I just dumped a bunch of mulch on them and sprayed a lot of roundup. Seemed to work. Then there is this cactus...that's a beast. You'd think a cactus would not thrive in a rainy not all that hot climate, but it seems to love the rain and 70 degree days so it keeps blooming and grows faster than the weeds. No big deal until you have to pick them all off and get stickered every 20 seconds. Brutal. I hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate dealing with all this [expletive].

Mowing and weedeatering is kind of enjoyable, but dealing with weeds is nightmare fuel.

When I decided to buy a place I started looking at single family homes. At some point I asked myself if I would rather be playing golf or mowing my lawn. Bought a townhouse and have never looked back.

I had no idea cactus grew anywhere but the desert. I always dreamed of having a sand lawn with a few cacti and 120 degree heat to sear any potential invasive species such as grass.

I was weed trimming my ditch yesterday, the one owned by the government but I'm responsible for maintaining, which I'm not allowed to just cover with rocks like I'd like to do, cursing myself for ever choosing this place. I miss winter.

Mrs Rad is out pulling weeds while I'm watching the game. If it goes to extras she might have to mow too.

To be honest, I'm surprised there aren't more around. Here's the google earth pic. Look at this [expletive] thing. 2/3 of it is gone now, it took 9 of those big hefty trash bags to haul off. And, you can see the buds on it in the picture. [expletive] grows non stop.

it grows like crazy for next month and half, then fizzles out. I just water the front some and put some mulch around so we have a facade of a lawn.

In the back, with a big dog and big trees, can't get too fancy. I really like it back here though, burning some sticks and branches out here now

I never got the idea of watering. Doesn't that make the stuff grow faster, meaning you have to cut it more often? What am I missing here?

Our front lawn is a hill/bank and we shortcut up it all the time- I can't let it completely die.

I do like cutting grass and listening to music.
