Been there man. A few years ago. Rolled my ankle and dropped like a rock. And was about 2 miles from my car, so I tried to jog it off on way back and rolled the ankle and dropped again. As you figure, basketball will be about the hardest thing to fully recover for. I really focused on rehabbing it, and it worked. I ran a 10K hilly trail race later in the week after my brutal sprain. braced up. I had lingering pain, and minor re-tweaks to the sprain thru fall running, now all good. knock on wood.
Good luck. if you don't do a doc for this -Lots of good info out there on DIY rehab.
I rolled an ankle once bad in college and I was shocked at how black and blue it gets. The trainers but some sort of padded thing to help push the bruising down in the foot, I ended up putting it on backwards when I redressed and it pushed it up my leg. I had black and blue all the way up into my calves.
I have strained neck muscles. Rest and 2 weeks worth at least of Alleve. Pretty much a waste of time going to the doc, other than x-rays revealed no brain tumor and some bone spurs in my neck that are normal for a person my age. The one thing I did learn was that the doc said neck muscles can take time to heal because it's hard to rest them, and that taking NSAID's need to be done consistently for 2 weeks or so to really have an effect on reducing swelling. He said me taking a couple of ibuprofen every other day or whatever won't do it, he wanted me to go on a steady diet of them.
They gave me a PT rx but I'm not doing that. Most PT is a scam.
Really? I love pt. Found it's an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure type thing. Used to get debilitating back spasms. Pt showed me how stretching hamstrings (and a good massage) can stop that. Knee troubles? Do this exercise (stair steppers maily). Sprained ankles? Use these bands and do these exercises. Fixed. I would go to a pt before anyone else to be honest.
I still remember spraining an ankle about a week and a half before a big ski trip. Went to the doc thinking...you know...I'm gonna have to cancel this trip or just drink the whole time with no skiing. But he said not necessarily...go see this therapist. Told the pt what was up and he was the one that let me know about the band exercises. I think b I sent him a postcard from the mountain. Anyway, I love me some physical therapy. Plus they give the best massages.
Alot of PT is a scam. I get it for some things - recovering from a surgery or a really major injury - but they hand out PT rx's for everything now. In fact, the orthopedic center I go to has the therapy place right in the same building, they work hand in hand. It's a very simple algorithm: IF you go to see one of these doctors, THEN you will get an rx for PT. Always, without exception. Alot of the exercises you could find on your own and at the very most you might need one session to show you the exercises - not 10 appointments.
It's over prescribed is what I am saying. They are worse than dentists with doing unnecessary crap. Scams.
