It's interesting to me that Carter shares that with Lucas and Cameron, though he works on a smaller scale. They're all able to create these believable, robust worlds and the concepts are usually compelling. But they fall flat on their face when it comes to dialogue and working with actors. It seems like Cameron does a little better, but even Titanic is like this. Great story, technically impressive, and the overall human tragedy is well-portrayed. But Winslet and DiCaprio have terrible dialog to work with and struggle to make it seem real. He seems to work better with veteran actors - i think the Abyss and Aliens are his best acted movies. Lucas too, had a great slate of actors in the prequels, and almost none of the characters are interesting.thrill wrote:Joel McHale is a weak actor and when the dialog is bad, he's wooden. He can't play anything other than heightened versions of Joel McHale.
I enjoyed watching a new x files episode, but Chris Carter is terrible. He can't write dialog and he hasn't found a coherent end game for his conspiracy in TWO DECADES. He had hall of fame writers and show runners on his staff. Glen Morgan, Vince Gilligan, James Wong and Frank Spotnitz are responsible for some of the most ground breaking and popular TV ever. Hard to think anything other than they propped him up.
How many times is Carter going to use the trope of "Old man involved in conspiracy has change of heart and dangles the truth in front of mulder but won't just outright explain it to him despite the fact that he might die at any time?"

Season 1 of Fargo was good not great. I see the footwork for the great season 2 people are talking about. Billy Bob was way too Jason Bournian. Key and Peele was a nice surprise. I just can't help but compare Bilbo to William H. Macy, which isn't flattering to him, or fair, really.

I know Scorsese is involved, but the promos for Vinyl on HBO are cringeworthy to me. Every late 70's cliche you can think of. Coke, brown and tan leather jackets, cash, guns, Rock and Roll!, coke, fights, guitars being smashed, spinning records, more coke!

Yeah it looks rough, but I really like Bobby Cannavale, so I hope it's good.

I like him too, and it is just a trailer so I'm sure they wanted to put all the loud, crazy [expletive] up front.thrill wrote:Yeah it looks rough, but I really like Bobby Cannavale, so I hope it's good.

The second episode was the good old X-Files we know and love. A few jokes, interesting story, and downright creepy in a couple parts.

Scully picked up Mulder's mumble talking along the way. Open your mouth when you talk, guys.
Next week is the Darin Morgan ep, which everyone who's seen it loves. All of his episodes are HOF, so my expectations are high.

It did sound to me like she had bronchitis or something. What's odd is the scenes with their kid, I thought she sounded more "normal."thrill wrote:Scully picked up Mulder's mumble talking along the way. Open your mouth when you talk, guys.

I'll just come out and say it--the new X-Files just isnt good.
Admittedly, i stopped watching the series after the first couple of seasons and not because i dont like the genre (i love this [expletive], in fact!) mainly because i just simply lost interest. I probably missed out on a lot of good tv, but im not rushing to catch up on eveything i missed.
The first episode with all the over-the-top conspiracy theory BS really turned me off.
The 2nd episode was OK, but i wish they would have just stuck with one storyline. And there's a swamp thing in the next episode? I dunno. They only have 6 episodes to tell their story and it just looks like a bunch of random stuff with be thrown together with some sort of phoned in conclusion.
I'll watch them all, but its pretty forgettable.
