Re: The Beer Thread
I think I've found my new favorite beer--the Bell's Brewery Special Double Cream Stout.
had this baby last weekend at some fancy schmancy restaurant and been lookin for all around town and finally found it, wouldnt you know, at the liquor store right across the street from my building.
$15 is a little steep for a 6 pack but it's worth every penny. My hope is that some of the bigger places will sell it so it's a bit cheaper cause i cant justify paying that much on the reg....not in this economy!!!!!

Re: The Beer Thread
I really like Heavy Riff as a destination. The beer is always surprisingly delicious, the food is exceptional, and they have one of my favorite free shuffleboard tables around. I don't know why they aren't more popular, but even for someone who really likes the place, they're never top of mind when I'm going out. Not sure why. I still end up someplace like Civil Life, Perennial, 4 Hands, or Modern.spachi wrote:Any Heavy Riff fans here? I've only been there 3 times and I"ve never seen it crowded. We tried a Saison and multiple hoppy beers (IPA, wheat, and a sessionable pale). With the quality they put out they should be more popular.

Been slowly coming around to Farmhaus ales and saisons. Firestone Opal was pretty good. Slightly less hoppy it would be great.
My fancy beer store is starting to become too popular. They have a small bar and a few taps. Two times ago, it was packed which is fine, but way too much whiny overt beer talk by the patrons, [expletive] about IPAs and whatnot. Then last time, place is jammed-they got a god damn video game tourney right in front of the German biers wall.
I have no problem with gamers-but show some respect-keep it where it belongs-in their apartment dwellings or moms basement.

Re: The Beer Thread

I've stumbled into some free beer at things like this. Buy one and they give you one -or they let you sample generously. Then I stumble out.
This particular beer sounds good. I really liked that schlafly kona something.

Yeah... the Kona blonde was amazing. If it's even remotely similar, the double bean has to be tremendous.

Re: The Beer Thread
lol-the internet outrage invades the world of beer.
http://draftmag.com/beer-outrage-internet/
When this magazine posted its top 25 Beers of the Year list last year, a Facebook commenter, enraged that some of his favorite beers didn’t make the cut, referred to us editors as “a bunch of inbred morons.”
If this is how Goose Island repays their veterans and hardcore supporters of what USED to be one of the GREATEST products on the market than the Geese need to be SHOT DOWN AND BUTCHERED.”
The tensions aren’t limited to just RateBeer and BeerAdvocate. Even smaller, localized websites like St. Louis’ STL Hops forums have seen numbers grow from 2009’s base of 30 to 40 users, who nearly all knew each other offline, to 2,000 members today who may not even know each other’s real names. That increase can lead to, euphemistically, differences of opinion.

Re: The Beer Thread
This kind of says it all about my experience with folks in STL compared to DC... just the tone:
DC Guy: "I'm snarky and THINGS ARE VERY IMPORTANT!!! MY ENTIRE SOCIAL STANDING IS TIED INTO HOW MUCH I CAN IMPRESS PEOPLE WITH BEER! Everything is a business!"
Which is my big way of saying that DC people are [expletive] jackasses on so many levels and I miss the friendliness of the midwest (and in particular, STL).
Mike Sweeney, creator and editor of STL Hops wrote:“I don’t concern myself with having to get XYZ beer. Beer should be about making friends. Then, even if you don’t get to own a bottle, if you’re a cool person and not a jerk, you’ll get to try it at a bottle share.”
STL Guy: "Be cool. Share and make friends."the editor of DCBeer.com wrote:But many don’t see it as a desire to consume every beer under the sun. Their emotional response to beer comes from passion, they say. And if beer consumers are passionate, that emotional response will sometimes be negative.
“I have a very different relationship with craft beer as a product than other goods,” says Bill DeBaun, one of the editors of DCBeer.com and the author of a sometimes snarky personal Twitter account, @dcbeerbill. “I don’t tweet like this about ketchup. I haven’t spent one-hundredth the time with any other kind of product that I have with craft beer. It’s not just going home to a six-pack in the fridge; a lot of my social life is tied up in this product. People understand that ketchup is a business, but do not want to accept that beer is a business. And I’m guilty of that, too.”
