That's great, Joce.

I'm out of action for most of January. On two antibiotics (one for UTI, one for epididymitis), a probiotic, have to wear a jockstrap, can't exercise other than walking and no lifting anything over 10 lbs. Go back in 3 weeks once the drugs are gone. Happy New Year.

Sorry to hear it Rad. Patience in recovery is the hardest damn thing. Joce, 20lb great. since when?

All the holiday drinking, and getting older has me waking up to piss 3-5 times a night recently.

There are 5 couples going to Mexico in March and one of my very fit and competitive friends decided it would be a good idea to have a little "biggest loser" type of contest. We are taking our baselines- weight, number of pull ups, burpees, and a one mile run time. Then we will check it right before we go.

I run some and doubt I will be able to improve that much there. Maybe a little since I don't focus on 1 mile times, I'll start running shorter/faster. My weight is fine, I picked up a few pounds over the holidays but I really don't plan on taking any more than that off. Pullups I never do, I talked to a PT today who showed me this Armstrong workout. Any recommendations for training? I did 11 today as my baseline, he told me 20 was what the marines want so that's my goal. Reasonable? With Burpees my legs give out pretty easy because my knees aren't so great. I did 20 as a baseline, could have done a few more. I don't even know what to have as a goal for that. I pretty much hate those god damned things, so I'm not sure I will train much because they are awful and no fun.

Is this an honor system, or do you get together and do this

The baseline was honor system. I'm not sure if we are being tested in Mexico. My guess is yes - and to train for this I will be doing my burpees the last few weeks with a belly full of tequila.

paintItred can get you the mile training.

Chin-ups, not much other than to do them. the way people do them varies-some people just drop about a few inches and rip them off quickly. Not sure but I think that must be easier, than dropping into a more full range of motion. 20? That may be do-able, depending on ground rules on form.

Probably good to do a set until exhaustion, then rest a few secs and do a few more until muscle exhaustion. Rest a few secs, do a few more, then maybe do this whole deal again later.

Losing a few lbs helps with chin-ups. Go figure. Even 5lbs, I notice a diff.

My one friend starting this apparentley can do close to 30 when he trains. Don't know what his base is. He has an advantage. He is probably 5-6 and maybe 145. I'm 6-1/206. Shorter arms ...

His size/weight is a huge advantage for him as yours would be at bench press. But you know that. In my 20s I could do a ton of pull-ups. I bet 10 would be a struggle now.

Challenge that mother [expletive] er to a bench press is what I should do. This pull up burpee bull [expletive] is for small people. It takes me a while to get down and back up on those damn burpees. The pushup part is easy - I do a ton of pushups as part of my regular workout. It's just getting up and down and that jump that kills me.

Here is the Armstrong method recommended to me:

http://armstrongpullupprogram.com/

I'm not going to be able to follow that perfectly - for instance he says wait 3-4 hours after the pushups, and I don't have that time. But I see the gist of it and can modify.
