As someone that would have a beer or two a night (and a 6 pack or more on occasion) it was actually a lot easier than anticipated.jim wrote:If didn't have a beer since September, or even worse 8 months, I would be regretting everything.

What did you replace it with? I'm a daily beer drinker, and I just don't know what I could possibly drink in place of it.

I don't drink anything but water. Occasionally i'll have a sprite, or milk w/ cereal.
But, I pretty much only drink water.

The Perennial collaboration with Jack Rose in their Dealer's Choice series is really quite good. You get a strong hit of apple, with some citrus on the back end. They are two strong flavors, but they really balance well and smooth each other out.

Hey, I went to one of those. Wicked Weed. Looked to me like they are already in the well-established category.
And damn this month of not drinking is too long. [expletive] Joce!

Re: The Beer Thread
There is an article in St. Louis Business Journal (sorry, I can't get at a link) about A-B Inbev's stranglehold on distribution. It includes their program to pay up to $1.5 million annual to an independent distributor if 98% of their beers are A-B Inbev brands.33anda3rd wrote:The distribution part is the really scary part. The US set up the three-tier system after Prohibition and now all alcohol distribution is subject to it...unless you're big enough to just buy two of the three tiers so you can use your might to influence the third tier. It's kind of bull. And most consumers don't see it. If you're in a Jewel-Osco or a Mariano's supermarket in Chicago, you might see a big floor display of beer. Ommegang, Goose Island, Founders, Shiner, Ale Syndicate (a local craft brewer), Evil Twin, Budweiser. Looks like a broad array of beer selected by the store. Nah. It's all distributed by Lakeshore, owned by the Hand Family Companies, whose corporate home is Budweiser of Clarkesville, TN. Budweiser controls that floor display in a supermarket in a suburban Jewel, down to what is grouped together. That is really pretty scary when you consider how much control they have over what we see at that level as consumers without knowing who is presenting what to us as a marketing message.Freed Roger wrote:The empire strikes again
http://fortune.com/2015/12/22/anheuser- ... ckenridge/ fortunately they havent bought a single beer I like. As mentioned before, my only concern is their control over distribution, taps, beer aisles.
(though on average, participating distributor receive $200,000). As of now, the program exempts small craft brewers, though who is to say that won't change too.
I'm not drinking beer the rest of January, but [expletive] you AB-Inbev anyway.... Time to stop being a beer climate change denier. pretty soon we'll have the ice shelf collapse and Shock Top and Goose Island 312 will be drowning the land.
