Indians signed OF Shane Robinson to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Robinson batted just .250/.299/.322 in 197 plate appearances this summer for the Twins and he owns a brutal .237/.302/.313 slash line for his career. But the 31-year-old is a versatile defender in the outfield and he might have a decent shot at an Opening Day roster spot in Cleveland, where Michael Brantley (shoulder) is likely to miss the first month of the 2016 season.

Rockies designated RHP John Axford for assignment.
The 32-year-old right-hander did a decent job as the Rockies closer in 2015, posting a 4.20 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and 62/32 K/BB ratio across 55 2/3 innings while converting 25 saves. He was arbitration eligible this winter though, and the rebuilding Rockies didn't see paying him as being a cost-effective strategy. He should attract interest in free agency. Nov 20 - 8:18 PM

That...is not a decent job.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that Mark McGwire is expected to be named as Andy Green's bench coach with the Padres.
Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune reported over the weekend that McGwire was the top candidate for the job. He'll take the place of Dave Roberts, who was hired this week as the new manager of the Dodgers. McGwire has been a hitting coach over the last six seasons, including the last three with the Dodgers.

Interesting. If he does that for about three or four seasons he might get to manage the Diamondbacks.

Depends if LaRussa is still with the D'Backs in 3-4 years, his odds of getting the job go down dramatically if TLR steps down.

Marlins signed 1B Xavier Scruggs to a minor league contract.
Scruggs batted just .262/.279/.310 across 43 plate appearances this past season for the Cardinals, but the 28-year-old has flashed some promising power numbers at the upper levels of the minor leagues. He's a nice organizational-depth addition for the Fish.

xavier_scruggs First off I would like to say thank you to the Stl. Cardinals organization for providing me with the opportunity to chase and realize my dreams. Secondly, thank you to Cardinal Nation who have provided me with the upmost support throughout this journey and it will never be forgotten. Thirdly, thank you to all my Cardinal teammates who I have built lasting relationships with. You guys are family and always will be. Lastly, it is with the most pride and sincerity that I announce my signing/new beginning with the Miami Marlins. I am excited to be a part of this organization and strive for the things that are mine for the taking. All glory to God.

You're welcome, Xavier. It was the least I could do.
