Do you start work at irregular times? I am a morning person because it's the only time I can guarantee.

It doesnt help that I am a night owl. And the kid is night owl. So that pushes me even later.

Cold weather running

It's fine for other dudes, but I just can't.

I really old school with my clothing. My lifting shirts are one of two Cardinal t-shirts that are at least 5 years old. Holes, faded, etc...

Re: Getting into shape
I like the pushups. Mon/Wed I have an hour long dumbbell routine where I cycle through 8 different exercises. Each cycle ends with a set of pushups - I do 250+ pushups. Sets of 25 with the last set is an exhaustion set where I can't finish 25 all at once, I usually can get to 20 and I have to take a 3-5 second break to finish the last 5. On Friday I do bench/incline, and I'll do maybe 25x4 pushups between those sets.
When I 11-12-13 or so my Dad told me to do pushups for strength training, and I listened and always have done them. Very underrated strength exercise.
BTW - saw a new variation on the kettle ball. Now they are attaching a kettle ball on the end of a 4 foot iron pipe. So now, with the physics of leverage and all, when it does connect someones skull it should pretty much guarantee brains will be splattered all over the walls. It looks something I would have used in the on deck circle, not something I would swing around in a crowd of people. It looks something ISIS could use.
WTF? Someone is going to die, it's just a matter of time.

/I already do some of that. Not nearly enough. Man, there are so many workout routines, you can't do them all. I like rolling my own.The Scientific 7-Minute Workout
and Jim -that kettleball [expletive] sounds scary. If only there was a space -I'd like our rec center to have designated room far far away for people that do workout [expletive] like that. And throw in the guy swings a sword to work out. Also throw in the guys that do dead lifts, or clean and jerks and then slam the weights to the floor like Bulgarian Olympic weightlifters.

Re: Getting into shape
I've tweaked something in my neck and I finally figured out today how I did it. Started about two weeks ago where I noticed when I started out stretching - one of the things I do is clasp my hands together behind me and pull up until my arms are about parallel with the ground and then I bend over to try to rotate the shoulders up even higher. You've probably done something like that a million time to stretch the shoulders out, but what I noticed was a slight pain in the lower right back side of my skull. After about a week I finally started noticing a little stiffness in my neck, confirming that I had definitely tweaked something in my neck and it was radiating up into the skull. Which was better than what I first thought - lower back right brain cancer.
Today, I was doing some tricep work here I had a dumbell straight over my head and bending the elbows to bring the weight behind me head. On about the 2nd rep - I felt it. Not horrible, but absolutely got my attention. I stood off the bench -and holy [expletive]. I had to drop to a knee - extreme dizziness to the point where it kind of scared me. I new it was related, the pain and the dizzy spell.
Dizzy spell went away pretty quickly, I finished naturally because when you are old like me you never get through a workout without feeling something here or there, and if I stopped for stuff like this I"d never get a full workout in. Now I'm sitting with ice on my neck, it's definitely sore. I figure I need to scratch that out of repertoire for a few weeks.
Tomorrow I have to do this god damned turkey trot we sign up for every year. 4 [expletive] miles in the rain. I don't like to run, and I'm thinking this won't be good for the neck. After the 4 mile run in the wet with a sore neck, I get to drive 200 miles. Super.

Re: Getting into shape
Now I have tweaked what I think is my Piriformis. I have central butt pain:
http://sequencewiz.org/2014/05/14/three ... -butt-can/
It hurts like a mother [expletive]. What happened was Sunday I was just beat up physically, but wanted to get a workout in. I decided to swim. I had not swam in a month, because the last time I swam my shoulder really bothered me for a few days afterwords. Well I'll fix that I thought, I'll just do breast stroke. I did 1/4 mile, I'm not a big swimmer so for me that's a lot.
That night I felt a pinch in my butt, yesterday it because worse, and last night was damn near intolerable trying to sleep.
[expletive].
Certain motions I'm fine, I did the indoor spin bike this am for 45 minutes and it was ok. Jogging if I'm careful is ok, but starting and stopping isn't so hot.
I'm getting to the point where I'm afraid to try anything new.
Getting old really sucks.
