It's actually Velvet Merlin but I prefer the other name.

And now I'm actually torn; I can't decide whether I'm happy or sad about the correction.

This weekend I was at the grand opening for Modern Brewery's new tasting room. I only had Citrapolis before (which is excellent) but had a chance to sample the rest of their current lineup in the tasting room. Their other beers lived up to the standard of Citrapolis and I'd highly recommend seeking them out at a local pub. The only criticism I have is that the darker beers especially tasted far too similar. Not a lot of variety in the flavor profile.

Another place to check out. Haven't tried their beer yet - saw the Lou Dog on Cousin Hugo's non-fancy beer list ,but skipped it when I found it was a "summer" ale.

I've stopped at Old Bakery Brewery in DT Alton again. Good beer in a good space

The Dogfish Higher Math gives you a really strong hit of tart cherry on the front end, and some light chocolate on the back end. Like almost all Dogfish brews, it's very complex. You can really taste the 17% ABV, which I suspect will turn people off. Although I didn't mind at all.

a good thing about Illinois, some Dogfish Head and Ale Asylum beers available.

Sierra Nevada "Trip in the Woods" cherry choc barrel age stout - wish I bought a couple more of those.

I haven't been into Modern, but I know the guy who started it. He's HS pals with a couple of my really good friends I met and lived with in college. He has a BA from Harvard and whatever the grad brewing thing at UC Davis is called. I'm sure it's good and will only get better.

One of my after work spots threw Ayinger Celebrator on tap a few weeks ago. I've been digging the [expletive] out of it.

Celebrator is a top-5 beer for me.
