Re: The Beer Thread
wasn't a swipe at you. you know yer stuff, i really dont and i appreciate the input . i've gotten into the Hop craze the last 6-8 months or so and was enjoying lagunitas. which is why i posted the heineken article 'cause i find heineken awful (the beer, i dont know anything about the company). i certainly don't mind being picky on who i give my money too but i also can't say i've seen many loud/offensive beers (label wise). that may be selection available in wichita or i just don't pay attention.
on a completely unrelated note, i was chilling with my neighbor yesterday for a bit and he made a funny observation (at least to me). he's more of a drinker who likes to have a toke to pair it with, where im a toker that likes to have a beer paired with it. obviously there isn't a "wrong" answer on what someone likes to drink but at the same time, i do find it interesting/amusing when there are vast differences. 'cause i guess i was always under the impression that lagunitas ipa was "ok/good/average" or what have you.

Honestly that's probably why you like to have an IPA. It's nice to sip on. Maybe I like like stuff that's sweeter and easier (bourbon and brown ales) because I'm an alcoholic. Great.

and within the past week or so i had a shock top, a boston lager summer ale (i think) and that guinness blonde stuff and they all tasted...not good anymore. and i used to love shock top and blue moon. even had a blue moon white ipa last night and didn't think it was that great.

A top 3 cocktail for me. #1 for my wife, who requests I make her one at least 2X/week.haltz wrote:Speaking of, I've made about 20 of The Last Word in the last week, which is about 10x more than usual. I always wonder where these spurts come from exactly.

Yeah, same family the hop and the green.haltz wrote:Honestly that's probably why you like to have an IPA. It's nice to sip on. Maybe I like like stuff that's sweeter and easier (bourbon and brown ales) because I'm an alcoholic. Great.
I also like hopped beer with anything oily and spicy. Thai, Mexican, Chinese. That whack of hop bitterness clears the palate and wipes you clean for the next bite.

My typical routine of a lemon sorbet intermezzo between every bite can get tedious. I'll try that.
TLW is a great study on flavor profiles. Four assertive flavors, two of which are drink ruiners when not used judiciously, balance each other out poured in equal parts.

I'm anti equal parts. Push the gin to 1.0, reel the Marascino back to 0.5. Even better, get the Leopoldo Bros maraschino and keep it at 0.5. I also don't do equal parts Negronis, I push the gin to 1.25 and pull the Campari back to 0.75. I think modern palates want a more spirit-forward drink and that our gins are good enough not to need Luxardo or Campari covering them.

You should look for San Diego IPAs. They make very dank beers there.Jocephus wrote:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cannabaceae33anda3rd wrote:Yeah, same family the hop and the green.haltz wrote:Honestly that's probably why you like to have an IPA.
