TFG will be running a deal in Canadian Rockies some time around then. Lucky bastard.

From what I've heard, Dipsea is a classic -and would love to do it. And get my arse kicked. A course like that - running down steep terrain including uneven staircases- takes familiarity with it to go fast without brakes on. The brain can map it/remembers where all the roots are, the best way to maneuver. The race has a unique handicap system -which will do me no good since a sizeable portion of the field in these events are 40-something males with nothing to save their health for.

I am looking forward to Sept - basing a trip to SF-Lake Tahoe around a trail race in Emerald Bay -Tahoe. Not as serious as the Dipsea, but I hope to get to hike the course before running the event.

I've read somewhere that lifting weights gives your heart enough workout that you don't need cardio. Anyone have any thoughts on this because damn I hate cardio, but I quite enjoy lifting.

my physician has told me that, lifting doesn't add much... other than muscle of course. that some type of cardio work is the best type of workout. fwiw

No real trails close. That's what I was afraid of.

Nothing real close. The Lone Elk side of the Chubb Trail is quickest for me -off 44 and 141.

It is hard to justify driving longer amount of time than the run. Back when I started on trails, I'd spend about half the time just exploring around getting acquainted with the trails -aka hiking.

I need to do more of that exploring around. Sometimes I'll be on the bluffs and won't even stop to take in the view.

I saw on that link, Big River Running is doing a trail running familiarization thing. Trail races - for me are an excuse to get out to some different further out trails (St. Charles Parks -Indian Camp Creek, Klondike, Salt Lick Trail near Valmeyer, Cuivre River State Park). Rockwoods and Greensfelder Al Foster Trails, all great - but I rarely make it that far.

I'm a big fan of Lewis & Clark Trails. Worth the drive.

Forest Park -obviously has the gravelly chat surface which is a little easier on the joints. and sometimes nice views( fit chicks in sports bras.)

It depends on what program you're doing. If you're doing 3x5 sets with a 3 minutes in between sets (i.e. a strength program), you're not getting much cardio. If you're doing 5x10 with 1 minute breaks and supersets, you're gonna be pumping and sweating.
