And you'd get in line, seventeen miles long, and the line became an angry mob of people -- fornicators and thieves, mutant children and circus freaks -- and you waited for years and by the time you got to the teller, you were senile and arthritic and you couldn't remember your own name. Let me put it this way, I don't want to wait in a line backed up for you to get your cherry vanilla lime ginger ale, when I didnt used to have to wait at all for you to get you diet mug root beer. Capiche?

Life was simpler then. There wasn't all this concern about hy-giene! It my days, we didn't have Kleenex. When you turned seventeen, you were given the family handkerchief. ... It hadn't been washed in generations and it stood on its own ... filled with diseases and swarmin' with flies. ... If you tried to blow your nose, you'd get an infection and your head would swell up and turn green and children would burst into tears at the sight o' ya! And that's the way it was and we liked it!

Life was a carnival! We entertained ourselves! We didn't need moooovin' pitchurrrres. In my day, there was only one show in town -- it was called "Stare at the sun!" ... That's right! You'd sit in the middle of an open field and stare up at the sun till your eyeballs burst into flames! And you thought, "Oh, no! Maybe I shouldn't've stared directly into the burning sun with my eyes wide open." But it was too late! Your head was on fire and people were roastin' chickens over it. ... And that's the way it was and we liked it!

Progress?! Flobble-de-flee! In my day, when we were angry and frustrated, we just said, "Flobble-de-flee!" 'cause we were idiots and we didn't know what else to say! Just a bunch o' illiterate Cro-Magnons, blowin' on crusty handkerchiefs, waitin' in lines for our head to burst into flame and that's the way it was and we liked it!

Is the line slow because people are too dumb to use it or they can't decide what they want?

In my experience, yes.

It is demonstrably slower.

Instead of 1) fill cup with ice and 2) push button for drink, its:

1: Put the cup into that big hole and try to put it under the nozzle you can't see. (Nobody has mentioned this human factors [expletive]).

2. Push awkwardly on the ice lever to get ice in your cup. (Nobody has mentioned this, yet another, human factors [expletive] - the lever is not long enough and not easy enough to move, Ive watched people slip the cup past it or the cup will sometimes fold if the person pushes too hard at the wrong spot.

3. God forbid too much ice gets in your cup because where do you unload it?

4. Pick one of 20 or so brands. Newbies have to look the whole thing over. Wait for that.

5. Once on the brand screen it is not intuitive that if all you want is that brand you can go ahead and push. It took me a while to get that and I've seen others push the regular again as well.

6. Now pick one of the 4-8 flavors. Make sure to read them all!

7. Now push the PUSH button!

Sure, you get exactly what you want but at 2 - 4 times the length of time it used to take.

Not. A. Fan.

I find it amusing that Netflix is releasing season 2 of one of its shows on DVD.

ok, so luckily i was smart and installed tracking software on the phone. I have it traced to an address in north UCity. There's a lock screen message that says "[my email] $50 reward."

The next step (assuming they don't email me) is to go to the police, right?
