Knob Creek. A decent enough bourbon when you find yourself amidst the somnambulant grotesques of Winesburg, Ohio.

I'm not trying to be a bourbon snob. I'm not a bourbon snob. Nor am I trying to be a Marriott-in-the-suburbs-snob. The fact of those events (and my wife is the youngest of 7 in an Irish Catholic family from the suburbs who are all apparently allergic to birth control so there are many such events) is that you're either drinking very bad beer or very bad wine, with the usual big brand suspects of booze behind the bar (Jack, Beam, Absolut, etc.) I'm not trying to ask the bartender to make me a Vieux Carre or a Negroni or anything, then turning up my nose because "what do you mean you don't have Campari?." I'm saying that given a selection of big-brand stuff at a chain hotel, if I have Knob as an option, I find it to be a very good option indeed, far better than the other big-brand beer, wine and spirits on offer.

Sorry, just riffing off your elitist rep. I didn't read it as snobby.

Oh, I'm an elitist snob. Just not this one time. :)

Oh, I know. I just thought the way you wrote that was particularly tone deaf. If anyone here is an elitist snob, well... I shouldn't be the first to cast (hand hewed whiskey) stones.

Scored a Weller 12 and and Weller Old Antique for $21 and $22 respectively. Thank you, Tucson schmucks.
I bought a Weller Antique and holy [expletive] [expletive]. I'm not man enough to drink that. All I can taste is burn. At $26, I feel like it was a mistake, but oh well. Makes for a cool looking bottle to display on the bar.

Splash of water or a rock should mellow it out. You should get the burn from the proofiness and then get a long smooth finish from the wheat.

There's some Elmer T Lee out in the Chicago market if anyone around here is looking. I got a heads up from one of my dudes at Wirtz that it was in the warehouse on Friday, so it should be making its way into retail accounts right about now. Worth placing a call or a visit to your local to see if they have any you can scoop up. A nice leathery bourbon with a long finish, good for both bourbon geeks and newbies.

Is that something suburban Binny's would carry?

Very possible. I'd go in and talk to the buyer, see if he would be nice enough to help you get one. If not, I'd go in on the reg so that the next time it comes he knows you and puts you on his list. Or, if you have a shop where you're a regular and the owner/buyer knows you, you could ask him if he's getting any.
