We do have some beans rarely. Maybe once a month. I found some black bean noodles which are okay. We also eat a lot of macadamia nuts, and almond flour and almond butter.

Its a (personally) tweaked version of the Primal diet and another similar diet my wife needs for some stomach issues.
I haven't decided on an actual diet other than trying to eat better but I absolutely have to get my butt back in shape. I just do not feel good anymore in general. Always tired. No desire to do anything but plant my butt on the couch if I'm not at work or at the bar and even being perfectly fine just drinking at softball and not running around the field on defense and I've always enjoyed playing defense as much as anything before last summer.
I've never been small but until the last couple of years I was surprisingly fast and agile for my size and shocked people with the way I moved around and it always came back to me after the first couple of games each season. I even held down short for all but a couple of games the season one of my teams went 11-3 in the regular season and won the league tournament (40 teams total) which really surprised a lot of people in the league with the plays I made. I should probably put a disclaimer in that I've been playing in this league for over a decade now and have three teams so I pretty much know where to position myself on anyone who's been around more than a year. Not so much anymore. I'm a step late to everything and get down about it. I hit 35 the summer before last and started to feel it a little but I'll be 37 in just over a month and based on how much of a decline I took between 35 and 36, I absolutely have to do something. I feel like I'm a liability now and just crappy in general.
So anyway, I bought a scale so I can actually measure progress in the weight department (honestly just feeling better and better about myself is goal number 1 though) and right now I'm at 320 and starting to push the limits of my waist which has been 42" years but in some brands I've had to step up to 44" in the past year. Hopefully I can keep myself hopping on that scale every morning, seeing that number and feeling shame and get my butt to the gym on a regular basis. Hopefully I'll be posting back here soon with something good to say.
And I actually came to this thread to comment about how I just found out that a guy at work is newly into Crossfit and has fully immersed himself in the cult and trying to get me to join his group at the gym he goes to... all for the low cost of $270/month if you agree to a 12 month contract and $350/month if you just want to go month to month.
No thanks. I'll make Planet Fitness work for me at $10/month and then find somewhere better once I prove to myself I can stick with a program.

Some people -the only way can be vested (or think they can be) in the process of getting in shape is by sinking money into it.
More than any specific plan, which I'm sure all of us will suggest various different ones, I want to say, don't weigh yourself daily. Your weight fill flux based on workouts, water weight etc, and weighing daily can be rough psychologically.

Once I lose about another 10 pounds I plan on throwing money at my fitness issue. Personal trainer, classes, etc.
Just being honest here.
Edit - So far I've lost over 20 pounds with hardly even exercising. I've had many slip ups, but cutting back on booze is like weight loss magic for me.

That 's great for you. You've already shown initiative. I was referring more to people (ok -it's my step-daughter) who thinks of spending the money the first as the initiative. Magic. Plus she doesn't have money for it.
I put money into it as well. signing up for races etc adds up. Then there was one I paid for and didn't make because I'm lightweight when overtired, and drank fancy high ABV beers with lukethedrifter.

Got a family Y membership. Good news is my 77 year old mom has become a regular in the last few weeks, meeting new friends and getting in shape with chair yoga and cardio and light weights. The bad news is I've gone maybe 4 times in a month.
