I'm a patriot for good ideas and also for what I thought were deleterious to the nation.

you want a war of words,? You got one. Your late aunt was, as and I for years, patriots and conservatives for not only good ideas but allso for what we thought were deleterious to the nation, based on our family values
Have you asked your sister why she married an idiot?
She's not around any longer to ask but, yeah, we've wondered. But I will say, he was a loving and supportive husband. And an English teacher! I assume he was writing quickly on his phone while foaming at the mouth. That or senility is setting in. Or both.

I gotta confess I'm the son of a preacher-man. Its probably genetic when you're talking about Deep Thoughts(tm) you go back to King James.

So I thought I had cleansed my Facebook feed of all the crazy political stuff. Now Facebook starts putting stuff that my friends "Liked" into my feed. It's not stuff they "Shared", they just clicked a "Like" button. Why does it do this? I don't need to know if my aunt "liked" some right-wing meme.

Also something to keep in mind: stuff that you click "Like" on can appear in others' feeds. Oh, I'm sure there's some setting you can change buried deep on the 3rd page of your account settings to disable this.

Boy, that will cause people to restrain themselves before posting.
PD is turning off comments section for 2 months, on editorials and some columns citing Ferguson.

It won't happen, page hits would drop, but wish it were permanent and to some news stories too.

Hey y'all - Just want to let you know that the Jordanian pilot burned to death? Yeah - that was Barack HUSSEIN Obama's fault. Got it straight from my brother-in-law on Facebook so you can take it to the bank.

I unfriended the idiot...

This isn't in the same lines as the rest of the conversation but I didn't want to start an entire thread to complain about this and it does involved Facebook.

A friend of mine throws a big Mardi Gras party every year right at 9th and Russell, the heart of it all. He puts a lot of money and work into the parties and well over 150 people will be there at some point during the day. He gets friends to work security at the front door (they even distribute wrist bands and have a list on a clipboard showing who is OK to let in). He has someone tend the bar. He gets someone to DJ. He has to move everything out and lay plastic from the top of the town house to the bottom so the floors don't get destroyed. He rents a bathroom to put out back because the two inside aren't enough. He even gets sponsors. This year Defiance Whiskey is sponsoring the party and donated signage, booze and an ice sculpture luge for shots. Heck, Wee Man showed up in 2013 and hung out for awhile when Monster sponsored his party.

Currently he has over 300 people invited and 81 confirmed as attending on the event page. I know there will be a lot more people than that. There always are. People wait until the last minute to RSVP. To help with the costs of everything he started a Go Fund Me page a month ago. On the page he lists the following options for his party:

$0 - Access to the party but BYOB
$10 - full access to the keg(s)
$20 - Keg and full bar
$50 - All of that and a custom designed hoodie and mardi gras cup that he is having made with his party's logo for the year
$100 - All of the other stuff plus an assortment of beads and a bottle of champagne

Any extra money after recouping his costs is donated to the Human Society.

We are just a couple of days away and there has been a total of $400 donated. Myself and two friends each donated $100 of that. 6 other people account for the other $100. That is all from over 80 people who have already said they will be there. And as the event gets closer even more will RSVP to make sure they are on the list. More people will donate as well but why do these jerks wait until the very last minute and are then cheap about it? No wonder he keeps saying every year is his last. I don't know how he always manages to have enough booze and never way too much with the way everybody waits until the last minute to tell him what they're in for. It would drive me crazy. He is one heck of a party planner.

Oh, and this year to thank Defiance Whiskey for sponsoring his party he is holding a contest where anybody invited to the party can promote Defiance Whiskey on social media with a certain hashtag and in a day or two he'll have a random drawing where one person gets a bottle of whiskey and a parking pass so they can park in the yellow zone with the other Soulard residents.

Seems like nobody invited to a party like that should have to even think twice about being generous (and prompt) with their donations.

My dad's facebook feed is nothing but hatred of Obama and blacks in St. Louis (for you see, they are animal criminals), Islamophobia, and his reposts of my pictures of my children. At some point soon I'm going to have to intervene, because I can't stand seeing my kids placed in this context.

My favorite thing right now on Facebook is Mike Rowe. He takes a random question from somebody on his wall (I assume the questions are real, even though they seem set-up) and then spins a really long, conservative folk tale about why he's so awesome.

The latest one was someone asked if Howard Dean's critisizing Scott Walker for dropping out of college was legit. Of course it's not legit, and it's because Mike Rowe got his first gig on QVC without a college degree. He explains all the amazing, awesome things he did to get that gig in extreme detail. So you see? Scott Walker is fine because Mike Rowe got a job without a college degree once.

Change your privacy settings so he can't share the photos. "I don't know why you can't share them dad. Must be a FB problem!"
