Mrs Rad flew to Boston on Jan 26 - a day early to beat the first blizzard. Her Monday flight home has been moved to Tuesday because of the current storm. Not sure how much they'll get this time, but it'll be on top of the 72" that have already fallen during her visit.

Sure glad I passed on this one. I may never travel with her again.

I've seen a lot of FB posts from friends shoveling their roofs this past weekend. Fiance's dad spent most of Saturday shoveling off his roof. Said snow on the ground was only a few feet from the eaves. Maybe they'll hit 200" but I doubt they hit the average 250" this year. Last year was almost 300.

My house has a decent pitch to most of the roof, except the back half is a flat roof with a very small pitch (and uses just tar rather than shingles). I'm planning on going back up this weekend to grab a few things the moving company wouldn't take, plus I need to finish remodeling the bathroom (which will be interesting without any real tools). My roof better not have caved in.

Also, jim, the way Boston takes care of the snow is the city pays farmers to lease their fields, which are now fallow for the winter. They just load up dump trucks, drive a few miles outside the city, and then dump the snow onto empty fields.

I"ve always wondered why they just down dump it into the ocean. Pollution with the salt and stuff?

A lot of places still do, I think. We did until a few years ago, except we were dumping it into the Oswego River and Lake Ontario, so it was a bigger deal to be dumping all the salt into a freshwater source.

I can't believe how many sissies called in or are 'working from home' today because of this snow. I understand that some people have kids and that brings up a legitimate complication but there are others that are just taking advantage of the situation and sticking it to the rest who show up. I heard that one of our security guards who was supposed to relieve our early front desk guard at 3pm called in before 11 this morning saying he couldn't make it in because the snow was too bad in his neighborhood. Then get a freaking shovel since you have four freaking hours before you even need to leave to get to work on time!!!

The joke with one of my friends here is that he will have to 'work from home' if even one drop of precipitation falls from the sky within 12 hours of his normal start time. Then he'll IM a couple of us and say something about how it is time to take a nap since he just shoveled his driveway and he deserves it. He didn't send me that one today but I heard about it from another friend he said that to who is a single mother and got up early so that she could shovel her driveway and get her kids somewhere for the day so she could come to work.

Speaking for myself only of course, but I just don't give a [expletive] enough about my job or the people I work with to not take advantage of an opportunity to "work" at home, or any excuse to not come into the office.

I live on a road with a pretty steep hill that is a perpendicular connector of two fairly busy roads that run parallel. I was out shoveling this morning and some little POS car was trying to attempt to go uphill to get to the other road. It's steep enough (and slick enough from the snow) at the top that you pretty much just have to look both ways and run the stop sign to turn onto the road. If you come to a complete stop you are screwed. This car came to a complete stop and was screwed. Spun out for awhile before starting the backward slide. Made a few more attempts and eventually had to just go in reverse all the way back down and go a different way.

The whole time one of my neighbors a few houses up was sitting there in her car in her driveway waiting for this person to get un [expletive] and had her window rolled down screaming at this person "THE RULE IS: IF YOU DON'T LIVE ON THAT ROAD, YOU DON'T GO UP THAT ROAD" like three or four times. Which.....what? I don't even know what that means. When the guy finally backed down the hill and left she comes tearing out of her driveway in a fishtail and comes flying down the hill doing her best "I have a Jeep Wrangler so I'm bulletproof" thing. She gets to the bottom with way too much speed and goes sliding through the intersection straight into the ditch on the other side. I about died laughing. She's lucky no cars were coming to T-bone the hell out of her.
