Re: Getting into shape
Now that I'm not drinking the weight is just falling right off of me. It's really incredible.

Seems like kind of a steep price to pay for being fit.

Re: Getting into shape
Not a sacrifice I'm willing to make that's for sure. True story, I gain weight during the summer even though I am way more active between three softball teams and trips to the lake where I just swim around the cove for hours. Everything I do during the summer involves booze though and when I drink, I drink a lot.
During the winter I just go home, don't drink more than once a week and rarely eat dinner. I am less active but also bring in way fewer calories and actually drop weight.
I really need to start going to the gym. I do have a membership now. I just haven't gone much.

I definitely do more formal working out in the winter than I do the summer, and I do not gain weight in the winter. I go pretty much 7 days a week in the winter, workout anywhere from just shy of an hour up to three hours on a Saturday. What else is there to do?

Re: Getting into shape
I do about as much exercise in summer as winter. In winter, I eat less -my busy season-it's a time thing.
But, I sense I get less reward for the efforts in the winter.
Some of this I attribute to ancient cycle - body is trying to hibernate -even when it isn't. Some of it is because I have less sleep and lose some mojo. Winter, I'll do it, but feel like I'm fighting inertia sometimes. Cold slows my speed. Results are down-which I can quantify when I run. gets in my head sometimes.
I get into a race about once a month Feb to May, and it's tough to fit in, but keeps my ass motivated. Once late spring hits, the clouds lift.

Re: Getting into shape
I did a triathlon today. Went to bed with no plan for working out other than I was going to go workout. Woke up earlier than planned, got to the gym and ran about 2.5 miles on an indoor track, then took an hour spin class. After that, I had 45 minutes until a yoga class I wanted to take started and the pool had lanes open. Swam for 20 minutes, then took my yoga class.
I only have general guidelines for working out - Mon/Wed is lifting, Tue/Thu is cardio, Fri is a mix, Sat/Sun is a mix - and I find that works better. I got to the gym at 8 am this morning and left right before noon. If I would have told myself last night I was going to spend almost 4 hours at the gym doing all of that I probably would have not been very motivated. Instead I just went to the gym early with no real plan other than the spin/yoga thing, and filled in the time with other good stuff.
Summer this never happens, because I'm not spending 4 hours inside.
