I spent my wedding night there!stlouie_lipp wrote:I would book a room herejim wrote:I'm really wondering if I am going to get out of here on time Monday morning. We are an 8:50 AM flight on Monday, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that A) it's not as bad as they say and B) it starts winding down early enough on Sunday evening that they start catching up. I'm not going to fret if I'm delayed a couple of hours, it would screw us out of a day on the beach but if we can get there by 5pm or so we can enjoy the night (2:00 is the time we would be at the resort if everything went well).
We will see. Nothing I can do about it. I did have the moment today where I felt the like the universe was conspiring against me. A week ago the forecast was sunny Sunday and Monday, then the snow mention came in a couple of days ago but it was 1-3" or whatever, and then yesterday they started talking about a big storm. Even today - originally the Warning was to expire at like 9pm on Sunday so you figure they will have things cleaned up by Monday, but now it's going until 6AM on Monday morning.

Just went out and shoveled the first layer off the driveway - about 1/2". People are going to die shoveling this stuff. It's wet and heavy, at least now.
Winter is great! How can people not like this?????

Re: Winter 2014/15
I neighbor I had never met came by at about 8am and cleaned my driveway. I just went out a little after 10 and it was a job. We are getting at least an inch an hour, and it's pretty heavy stuff.
We have never done this before in our lives, but we bought travel insurance. My wife worried about weather. I doubt we will need it, but if it were so bad tomorrow that we couldn't get out at all at least I know we won't lose the money. I was shocked to see that the 8:45 flight this morning left 2 minutes early. We are on United, and ORD is the hub, so it looks like they have more flights coming and going than any other carrier today. The flight coming in from Cancun is still saying it's happening, so maybe we will get lucky and we will be one of the ones where our plane is where it is supposed to be.
Honestly sorting this stuff out at airports must be a nightmare.

I hope you bought a new couch.
http://www.weather.com/news/news/art-va ... owl-sundayArt Van Furniture will issue a full refund for customers who shopped on Saturday at its six Chicago locations, if one condition is met: Winter Storm Linus must drop at least 3 inches of snow on Chicagoland between 12:01 a.m. and 11:59 p.m. on Super Bowl Sunday, according to ABC Chicago.
As of Sunday morning, O'Hare International Airport has already received 6 inches of snow, meaning Art Van will have to pony up their end of the bargain.

My wife just told me about that. I swear this company did the same thing a year or two ago, and there was controversy because at Midway they were over but at O'Hare they were under or something like that.stlouie_lipp wrote:I hope you bought a new couch.

At least someone is happy it is snowing.
edit - but not me. Our flight tomorrow morning is cancelled.

We got a few inches of the wettest heaviest snow I can remember. It's actually above freezing right now but I need to go back out and do more scooping I think. What a freaking mess. Thankfully we didn't get very much. If you never see me again here I probably had a heart attack scooping.

I'm going to need a vacation from planning my vacation. 90 minutes on hold listening to Pachelbel which I hated to begin with, and now it's an entirely new level.
Edit - I'm beginning to think it might not be until Wed. until we get out of here. I can't believe we bought travel insurance. Never ever have I done that, and I remember hovering over the Decline button for about 5 seconds before my wife said to just get it to play it safe given the time of year.
