And had been for over a month and for that I am grateful. Although as I type this I hear the weatherman say -29 wind chill in DeKalb, so it only helps so much.

Days like yesterday and what tomorrow is supposed to be are what made last winter worse.

It had been a pretty good, reasonable winter up until this week.

My car ran out of electricity last night. It was a cold walk home.

January is traditionally our coldest month, with the warm up starting in Feb. Sure well have cold miserable days up till April but it doesn't last. Last year was miserable jan type weather from November through March. That's what made last year so miserable winter lasted six months.

Let's talk about spring training trips. When do the games start for ST and when is the best time to go when you account for 1. getting out of [expletive] weather (which is obviously the earlier the better) 2. seeing games (which is seemingly later = better) and 3. getting to see any other things that you need to do at ST (which I have no idea about)?

The cool thing about going to the earlier ST games, let's say the first week of March, is that you get to see players you won't get to see any other time of the year unless you go to MiLB games. And I believe there are more split squad games earlier in the spring. And that's when it'll be colder at home, so you get the most benefit of warmer weather.

The players aren't all that engaged with fans now a days, that's a relic of the past. ST is turning into big business. For me the best time to see ST is late in the March. If you want to see some of the unknown guys you can always head over to the minor league fields, but if you go in late March you see many of the regulars.

And I know I'm a broken record, but Arizona >> Florida for ST (actually Arizona >> Florida period). You can see 2 games in a day no problem in Arizona (late March there is always at least one night game somewhere). I actually had one day where I was going to see 3 - there was a noon game, a 3:30 game, and a 7:00 game all within reach but I ended up hooking up with a buddy and four wheeling out in the desert and then drinking and only saw one game. In Florida you may have to put some serious highway miles in to just see one game, and the weather is much more predictable (although I was in Arizona one year the first week of games and I was at an Angels game in Tempe where I absolutely froze. I own an Angels sweatshirt because of that day, jacket wasn't enough).
