Joe Morgan once ran a lemonade stand, and according to him, Eckstein is a perfect fit for the women's sci-fi apparel business. Don't listen to what those people with MBA's say.

In a blend of Hot Stove and Former Cardinals Watch, I see the Brewers are trying to trade for Allen Craig.

@Haudricourt Very good source told me #Brewers talks with Boston about Allen Craig were initiated by Sox and was never a fit. So, forget about that.

Athletics designated 1B Shane Peterson for assignment.
Peterson was acquired from the Cardinals in 2009 as part of the Matt Holliday trade but only logged eight plate appearances for the A's. The 26-year-old did post a decent .308/.381/.460 batting line this past season at Triple-A, so he could draw interest on waivers.

FOX Sports' Jon Morosi reports that the Red Sox and Phillies "still could have a trade match" on Cole Hamels if Joe Kelly is in the deal.
Kelly obviously wouldn't be the headliner of the package for the Phillies, but he would make sense as a lesser part of the deal with Philly needing rotation help. The sinkerballer holds a career 3.41 ERA across 327 1/3 major league innings. The Red Sox have acquired three starters over the last 24 hours, but they're still lacking an ace and Hamels would certainly be that.

Blue Jays signed 1B Daric Barton to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Barton appeared in just 30 games this past season with the A's, batting just .158/.234/.175 with zero homers and five RBI. He's a former first-round pick and highly-ranking first base prospect, but the ship has probably sailed for the 29-year-old.

Speaking of Barton's, I wonder if that one dude is a rocket scientist these days.
