Re: Former Cardinals Watch
Saw one of his strike outs last night on Sports Center. He missed by nearly a foot. Maybe more. Fortunately for him, the anchor called him Craig Gentry.

Red Sox manager John Farrell said Thursday that "at this point" Allen Craig is not expected to need surgery on his left foot.
"At this point, no," Farrell said. "The comment at the time was if he experienced any further discomfort, any physical ailments ... which he has not experienced." Craig suffered a Lisfranc fracture last September, but Farrell doesn't think it's to blame for his struggles this season. "Right now, with his setup, he's getting pitched in quite a bit and it's caused him to commit to some pitches early, and when some breaking balls have shown up, that's where some of that early commitment has resulted in a check swing or expanding the plate away and down and off the plate," said Farrell. "We're just trying to get him back to some consistent at-bats and timing."

This makes me sad. I really enjoyed watching the Craigen hit.

Edward Mujica will fill in as the Red Sox's closer while Koji Uehara gets at least the next couple of days off.
Don't be surprised if it's Mujica's job the rest of the way. Junichi Tazawa will continue to pitch in his eighth-inning role.

Geez, still denying there's an issue w/ his foot. Delaying the likely inevitable surgery (which is puzzling why it hasn't been done already, because it's not as if it's an uncommon injury among athletes). The non-surgical route is now on about month 19 now for my wife & things still aren't even close to where they used to be (or where you would think it should be after 19 months). The doctors don't want to perform surgery (because she has a nerve damage condition called CRPS), but they've been in the non-surgery bandwagon for awhile because of potential complications w/ that...it's a [expletive] nightmare. I really feel sorry for Craig, he might turn it around but I think it's just as likely he'll fade away in a year or two & his career will be done when his contract runs out.Jocephus wrote:http://espn.go.com/blog/boston/red-sox/ ... ottoms-outCraig's rough season bottoms out

Joe Kelly gave up four runs -- three earned -- in 6 1/3 innings while throwing a career-high 120 pitches Monday against the Orioles.
Kelly was let down by his defense tonight and deserved better than the line he ended up with. Still, we wonder what he's doing blowing past his previous career high of 109 pitches in a completely meaningless September game. Plus, he just had a minor shoulder issue a couple of weeks back. Kelly is now 1-2 with a 3.95 ERA since coming over from St. Louis.

Comment From John Farrell
Any chance that both Betts and Castillo crack the starting OF in Boston next season? How can anyone have faith in Victorino at this point? A gust of wind puts him on the 15-day DL!!!

Eno Sarris: I think Craig’s on the bubble.

Skip Schumaker has undergone surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder.
Schumaker has been plagued by the shoulder issue for a big chunk of the season and finally decided to have operated on. He should be fine for spring training.
