Not only that, but I also hate the backwards use of have/has and are/is.
Portugal have the lead. Portugal are winning. No. Just no.

Strat's just being coy. He managed a professional team in Guam, and knows all about Horst Hrubesch.stlouie_lipp wrote: Something similar did happen in 1982. Now they play the games at the same time.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1982_FIFA_World_CupAlgeria had already played their final group game the day before, and West Germany and Austria knew that a West German win by 1 or 2 goals would qualify them both, while a larger German victory would qualify Algeria over Austria, and a draw or an Austrian win would eliminate the Germans. After 10 minutes of all-out attack, West Germany scored through a goal by Horst Hrubesch. After the goal was scored, the two teams kicked the ball around aimlessly for the rest of the match. Chants of "Fuera, fuera" ("Out, out") were screamed by the Spanish crowd, while angry Algerian supporters waved banknotes at the players. This performance was widely deplored, even by the German and Austrian fans. One German fan was so upset by his team's display that he burned his German flag in disgust.[2] Algeria protested to FIFA, who ruled that the result be allowed to stand; FIFA introduced a revised qualification system at subsequent World Cups in which the final two games in each group were played simultaneously.
WHO BTW,
The Hrubesch Youth, folks.is a retired German football player, now manager, employed as of 2012 as a youth trainer at the German Football Association.

Ha! As much as I'd like to be known around here as a World Cup historian, I just happened to hear that story on the radio right before I read that post. Looked it up on Wiki, and bam!Tambourine Man wrote:Strat's just being coy. He's been somewhat worse than that. It's not in the territory of Rick Ankiel in the 2000 knockout round, but Bradley's head has been up his arse for the two fixtures. I don't see the US talent pool being deep enough to keep Bradley out, but then again, you could have said something similar about Landon Donovan's presence on the roster.trill wrote:That's fair. I already complained about that. For real, I can't read the Deadspin commentary because they do that and it is so goddamn irritating. So I went to SB Nation and goddammit, they do it too. FFS.cardsfansince82 wrote:Not only that, but I also hate the backwards use of have/has and are/is.
