The fat kid (me) is going on a diet and exercise program.

How did I get this way? Shameful.

Eating that crazy food you eat probably.

Don't go too crazy on the diet. I'm 110% convinced it's more about exercise than diet. I eat 3000-3500 calories per day, and am at my HS weight basically. 2-4 beers a day, chips, pasta, cookies, a lot of Mexican food .... I don't go crazy eating and but when I'm hungry I eat and I eat stuff that tastes good, and when I'm thirsty I drink. I'm 51 and haven't been in this kind of shape since I was doing competitive bike racing in my early 30's. In some ways I'm in better shape than I was then because all I did then was ride/cardio. I'm in better well rounded shape now.

What happened to me was kids - once they hit a certain age I just didn't have as much time for myself and I just stopped doing any formal exercising. I coached, and played some ball, but no regular exercise. Now I have time again, and it's become such a lifestyle change I can't imagine going back to not exercising. 6 days a week, sometimes 7, and some days I work out morning and then again in the evening. And then I go home and suck down a couple of 3 beers.

But don't give up what you love, keep eating that crazy ass stuff you eat. Maybe cut down a hair, but don't go nuts on that. Just make yourself more active.

If you're drinking 3 beers a night, those 4 packs are perfect for you.

I hear ya -strong as I've been since college. It would be awesome to travel back in time and kick my younger self's ass.

The next time I say "ya" will be the first.

Does swinging a sledgehammer breaking up concrete all day count as a work out. It should. I'm beat.
