Re: The Beer Thread
O'dell's Loose Leaf American Session Ale (whatever that means) is pretty good drinking for warm evenings. nice carbonation that refreshes.. Could use a little more oomph - but beats the hell out of the summer lagers and nasty wheat beers that get thrust upon me this time of year.

Yessir. The lady and I finished the first jug on a Saturday night within probably 3-4 hours.Freed Roger wrote:Don't they say you should drink those jugs within a day or two of opening?

Re: The Beer Thread
I've revisited some Crown Valley Brewery beers and really enjoyed them. Gunslinger IPA, and Big Bison Ale (some sort of dubbel).
Can't recall why I steered clear of Crown Valley. Enjoyed few at their brewery near Ste. Gen and didn't get a good vibe -perhaps a bias against what seems to be a Crown Valley monopoly on everything down there.
Took a first trip to Urban Chestnut's new brew facility in the Grove. Happy to be able to get Hopfen, and Urbanator. Liked the food too.
Paid an impromptu visit to Civil Life Brewery - and like last time - it wasn't open yet. Damn them for not opening before noon.
Anybody drink the "Free State" beers that are showing up at grocery stores?

Re: The Beer Thread
Ralph's (Kroger) had Guinness Black Lager on sale for $3.99 a six pack, so I tried it. There is no reason for any other beer to exist.

Left Hand Milk Stout Nitro is so goddamn fantastic.
Their Imperial Russian Stout isn't half bad, either.

Re: The Beer Thread
Beers I'm currently really pimping hard to customers:
Evil Twin Hipster Ale. I thought I was gonna get a hop bomb. I got something malty with hints of sweetness and just enough hops to round it out. It's more a really great version of a Sam Adams Amber Ale than a craft beer hop bomb, which I've come to expect when I try a new craft/nano-brew calling itself "_____ Pale Ale". It comes in cans, which I love as a consumer, a buyer, and a re-seller.
Penrose Proto Gradus, Belgian-inspired Single. (These guys are in your backyard, jim, I'd suggest a trip to the taproom to see them if you haven't. Great dudes, great beer.)
Solemn Oath anything. They're doing one-off beers and not repeating themselves for a while. Everything is risky, fun, and 99% of it is freaking delicious. If you're in their taproom and you go "hey that guy brewing beer back there looks like Ron Swanson" it's his brother Matt.
Victory Summer Love Ale. They call it an ale, and technically it is, but man it tastes like a really crisp light lager. This stuff tastes like sunny and 80 degrees on your back porch, your dog snoring at your feet while you listen to a ballgame on the radio.
Off Color Fierce Berliner Weisse. I don't know if this is avail. outside IL. It's running just for the summer, it's a full-on sour beer where John just lets the lactobacillus run wild in the mash to get a huge wild funk on it. 3.8%. Highly crushable. I like selling this to people who go "I've never had a sour beer." I watch and the first sip is "Whoa!", the second sip is "Ok, I maybe get this." The third sip is "Hey...this is good". Then they order another.
I love that we have so many killer breweries in the US right now doing adventurous stuff to push the boundaries of what we drink.

This just happened to me a couple of weeks ago at a Walmart in Missouri. Knocked me on my ass.cardsfansince82 wrote:Have the lamestream brands gotten a lot cheaper during this craft beer trend? I did a double take when I saw 20 packs of Bud bottles for $12.99 at the gas station. That seems really cheap to me, but I don't drink enough to know.

When at sports bar I will notice how cheap that stuff is, then I order a beer. The Third Man wrote:This just happened to me a couple of weeks ago at a Walmart in Missouri. Re: The Beer Thread
Last night I plowed through a growler of Lake Placid Ubu ale. By far the best beer they make, and one of my absolute favorite craft brews.
