Padres minor league infielder Ryan Jackson could need surgery on his right wrist.
Jackson's wrist has been bothering him since spring training and didn't show signs of improvement after a second opinion this week. Surgery could cost him most, if not all, of the season.

And the A's are looking to trade for Kyle Blanks, which may signal an end to the Daric Barton era in Oakland.

Re: Former Cardinals Watch
Dr. James Andrews has confirmed that Carlos Beltran is dealing with a bone spur in his right elbow.
Beltran visited Dr. James Andrews on Tuesday for a second opinion. He'll attempt to play through the pain for now, but if he can't, surgery would cost him approximately two months. It's unclear when he'll be ready to come off the disabled list.

The Cardinals will send two former pitchers, Chris Carpenter and Ryan Franklin, to represent the team on the floor in Secaucus, N.J., for the televised portion of next month’s draft. Both pitchers are special assistants to general manager John Mozeliak. This will be Carpenter’s first public appearance as a representative of the club since his retirement.

I consider both to be current Cardinals. And one is a freakin' legend.Jocephus wrote:The Cardinals will send two former pitchers, Chris Carpenter and Ryan Franklin, to represent the team on the floor in Secaucus, N.J., for the televised portion of next month’s draft. But it's nice to send Carp there, too.

All of this good for a -0.1 WAR on the season.

I still don't know how to feel, precisely, about that 2011 trade. I know the results. I know 2011 wouldn't have unfolded quite as it did if we hadn't made the trade. I don't know what else we could've had for Rasmus. And I know how his career has panned out since then (ie, very good in 2013, otherwise mehhhhh). That was a weird deal.

Re: Former Cardinals Watch
Rasmus was valuable at the plate last year but what really made him an almost 5 WAR player was that his UZR/150 was +15.2, if you believe fielding stats. If his UZR had been as lousy last year as this year, it probably would have taken away a couple wins from him last year.
He still strikes out 30% of the time even in a good year. The strikeouts and inconsistency would drive me nuts if I were a Blue Jays fan. He's basically a very good player who is very inconsistent. He can vary all the way from nearly replacement level to 5 WAR.
