Re: The Beer Thread
Modelo is the best available beer in our grocery store. Negra Modelo is not any better than dos eques amber though.

Re: The Beer Thread
eh, as much as I want to like them - I'm not caring the Urban Chestnut available store offerings - Snickelfritz, Zwickel, Winged Nut, STLIPA. mainly not beerstyles I care for.
I do like Hopfen, and Dorfbier -but haven't seen it in bottles.

Re: The Beer Thread
I like the Schnickelfritz. Normally, the softer beers aren't really my deal but for whatever reason, I can get down with a Bavarian weissbier. I really wish Schlafly would bring theirs back.
Zwickel... I don't know, it's kind of a line drive single for me. Decent beer, again- not my style but a reasonable version of a style I don't like.
Back in the fall, they did this crazy black pumpkin beer (Count Orlok Black Pumpkin Ale) that was pretty unique. Unlike a lot of pumpkin beers, the pumpkin didn't overwhelm at all. But it had a ton of other sweet spices in it.
I also had multiple versions of their Wolpertinger at the festival they had in January. I really did not like the red wine barrel-aged version, but the bourbon barrel version was pretty damned good.
The Winged Nut... meh.

Re: The Beer Thread
Was excited to see Schlafly with a different version of Pale Ale (Organic Pale Ale) on tap - only it turned out to be yet another IPA.
Of course, too many IPAs being made -Schafly Bottleworks had about 4 different on tap last week (not including the new Organic Pale Ale - IPA.) I think there are way too many Hefe's and Belgian/farmhaus (whatever you call them) as well now. Too much focus on brewing specialized or extreme versions, for my liking. Give us some more Pale Ales, Ambers, Brown Ales.
Money to be made plying the middle ground. I was hoping to fill the Schlafly growler with something new - but ended up going with the original Pale Ale - which on tap, tastes way better than the bottle.
And in other self-centered facebookish beer news - Mrs. Freed secured free beer! at the grand opening of Clayton Craft Beer Cellar -only it's flower-flavored New Belgium Abbey. waaaahh!

Nope, not engaged yet. Certainly in the future plans though (rings and such have been discussed).lukethedrifter wrote:Swirls wrote:I won another 3L of Troeg's Mad Elf Ale earlier this week. Future Mrs. Swirls and I downed the first behemoth a couple weekends ago, although she ended up passing out on my couch. Won?
Engaged?
Congrats
Indeed. Especially in a mammoth 3L bottle that is about 2 feet high and weighs like 25 lbs... Almost an entire gallon of 11.5% beer. So freaking delicious. I hope jim would be proud.Maclowery wrote:Mad Elf is, what 11.5% ? That stuff is fantastic.

Don't they say you should drink those jugs within a day or two of opening?

Re: The Beer Thread
I tried this 4 Hands offering recently.

It's now tied for first on the list of worst beers I've ever tasted. Couldn't take a third gulp.
Orange zest? Go [expletive] yourself.
It tasted like drinking orange juice seconds after brushing your teeth.

Re: The Beer Thread
4 Hands must have an In with the distributors because that Divided Sky Rye is omnipresent (don't care for it). Wish 2nd Shift El Gato Grande and Art of Neurosis were more readily available. Does Civil Life bottle?

Re: The Beer Thread
I doubt it. Last I heard they don't even accept card at their brewery.
Coming along slowly.
