One guy at espn.com commented on the Axford demotion:
I got my Son a Axford poster a few years back. He hung it on his closet door and now it won't close.

Komatsu signs a minor-league deal with the Angels.

And the A's are looking to trade for Kyle Blanks, which may signal an end to the Daric Barton era in Oakland.

I thought this was the guy whose absence was the root cause of all our woes.

He has a .715 OPS and a .286 OBP. Which might be another sign that Father Time is catching up with Carlos.

That's still better than Craig, though.

During the ESPN broadcasts Kruk wouldn't stop talking about how we missed Beltran and how we weren't the same team without him. Drove me crazy. Obviously the solution to our month and a half of .500 baseball was to re-sign an old player whose body is already breaking down to a multiyear contract worth close to $50M.

Kruk wasn't smart enough to figure out that plugging Beltran into our lineup would have pushed Adams out of the lineup and we would be in worse shape than we are right now.

It isn't just Kruk.

Not a former Cardinal, but a familiar name - the Mets have outrighted Kyle Farnsworth. Not because of his performance, which has been OK, but because if they kept him past Saturday, they would have owed him an extra $750K.

He's not happy about it, as you can imagine.
