Jesus, the Cubs just signed Joel Piniero. He hasn't appeared in an MLB game since 2011.

It's bad form to use your own GRB handle in vain.

The California Angels of Los Anaheim are really becoming a dumping ground for declining ex-Cards. Fernando Salas is doing his best to stink up the place. Love it.

Our castaways on the Angels are not doing well. Freese and Pujols aren't hitting and Salas has gotten knocked around in his first couple of appearances.

Actually the Angels are an example of fun April stats. Naturally, Trout is off to a monstrous start, and Hamilton of all people is hitting .462 over the first four games, and every other player in the lineup is hitting below .200.

Oh, and they have a team ERA of 6.50 through four games.

Fangraphs Q&A with Kyle Lohse
On learning from Dave Duncan; “I had heard a lot about his philosophy but didn’t really know what it was until I got over there. The first thing he said was ‘Your fastball is going to be your two-seam. You’re going to learn to control that.’ Part of his philosophy was to pound the zone with that. You can get away with a lot more when you have movement on your fastball and stay down. I really embraced that. I also brought the curveball back in, just kind of as slow-the-guy-down pitch. Another thing he taught me was what to look for in a swing, and how to exploit the hitters’ weaknesses.

“Coaches tell you certain things and for whatever reason it just sunk in at that time. And one thing the Cardinals had that I’d never had was a lot of video to study hitters. I’m more of a visual learner, and seeing what he was talking about on video kind of opened my eyes. It went from there to me becoming a control guy, I figured out that when you get ahead of guys, they get defensive and have to hit your pitch. People talk about me pitching to contact. I’d rather strike guys out, but if I can get an out in two or three pitches because I’m locating and ahead in the count, that will result in a lot more efficient innings.”

Carlos Beltran hit his fourth home run as the Yankees beat the Cubs in the first half of Wednesday's doubleheader.
Beltran hit his solo shot in the bottom of the first inning and then drew a walk in the bottom of the third. He's batting .313 with a 1.025 OPS so far in pinstripes.

Edward Mujica took a blown save after giving up a run in the 10th inning Wednesday against the White Sox.
Last year, Mujica took his first loss and blown save of the season on July 4. By that time, he had already pitched 34 1/3 innings. This year, he already has one of each. One wonders how much longer he'll be trusted as Koji Uehara's fallback.

It's still quite early, but Albert is starting to look like the Pujols of old. Power has returned (4HR) but his BA still languishes. Really sorry to hear that Freese's old problems have returned. But his place in baseball history is secured, and not with just Cardinal fans.

Through 15 games Freese has a .414 OPS and one extra-base hit.
